Pakistan plane lands in Sweden after bomb threat - KTRE.com Lufkin and Nacogdoches | (http://www.ktre.com/Global/story.asp?S=13215883)

A plane carrying 273 people bound from Canada for Pakistan landed Saturday at Stockholm's Arlanda airport because of a bomb threat on board, airport and police officials said.
The pilot decided to land the Boeing 777 after Canadian police received a tip that a passenger on board was carrying explosives, Stockholm police spokeswoman Sussie Illum said. The plane landed safely at Arlanda airport and was parked at the end of the landing strip as police prepared to remove the passenger.
"We are not evacuating the plane," Illum said. "We are going in to apprehend this person."
The plane was on its way from Toronto to Karachi, Pakistan, when the pilot requested permission to land in Stockholm, Arlanda airport spokesman Anders Bredfall said. The airport remained open to air traffic.

Perhaps negotiate with a hijacker to release a prisoner in exchange for not exploding the bomb?

It's a bomb threat. No mention of hostages anywhere that I have seen.

What hijack and hostage?

No mention of it in Aftonbladet, and my local radio news.

It says a man is on board who may have explosives with him.

Maybe one of the passengers was seen to be fiddling with a match?

"Canadian authorities were tipped off by a woman in Canada that a passenger was carrying explosives. The man was described as a Canadian of Pakistani origin in his 30s. A police spokesman said that no explosives had been found on him and he did not resist when taken into custody." (BBC)

But he is still a suspect, and they will investigate the wazoo out of him! Safety first!

What kind of a totally wrong thread is this? There was never ever any hostage or hijack situation mentioned anywhere apart from here. Was it a classic misunderstand or simply sensationalism? Sometimes its really hard to understand why people pump up a message like this and don't even dare to change the header once its clarified

Swedish police say a man detained after a tip-off that he was carrying explosives on a Pakistan International Airlines jet has been released.

Police evacuated 273 people from the jet diverted to Stockholm due to a bomb alert Saturday and detained a passenger on suspicion of preparing aircraft sabotage, officials said.

However, no explosives were found on the man or on the Boeing 777, and all passengers — except the suspect — were allowed back on the plane nine hours later. It took off for Manchester, England, from where the passengers would continue their journey to Karachi, said Jan Lindqvist, a spokesman for airport operator Swedavia.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said it was investigating whether the incident was a “terrorism hoax.”

Whomever is responsible should be taken behind the building and spanked!
