Hey guys, I'm new here. Was poking around my user control panel and couldn't find an option to upload an avatar. Can someone help me out?

Thanks!

There isn't such an option.

I think the "I'm new here' is auto added to new members. I have an idea mods....Could we not have, as such...New members be F/O then after a number of post become SFO further leading to Captain. Just an idea.

Good post, I think I've seen this variant in other places also!

We did just that 12 years ago DD,

Binned it due to the sad and strange people fighting for positions. Equally split between old duffers sending copies of log books to prove they were captains and enthusiasts posting reams of dross to become captains.

And that's the key reason posts don't count in Jet Blast right to this day.

Well, "duck_butter" is not an avatar, its simply my forum name.

An avatar is a jpeg picture or small motion GIF image that forum users can upload to add something unique to their profile and help other users identify them.

I've never been a member of a forum that didn't allow them. Is that the case here at PPRune? Is this being prevented intentionally or would the forum administrators consider looking into this option?

Thanks

duck_butter; Your login name is at the top of all your posts, this identifies you.
Why do you need some other form of identification ?

As far as I can see, the only purpose an avatar would serve is to clutter up the page.

Yes, but some user's names are no more than a series of numbers or letters and not something that many will remember. The avatar is a nice visual way to help with easy recognition. In addition, it adds variety and is fun, which is why over a dozen message boards which I've visited in the past have them (including other airline forums).

Obviously, no one is required to use one if they don't want to. So I'm curious to know why they are not enabled here at PPRuNe? Unless perhaps its a space issue and there is not enough server space available to allow them.

I'd greatly appreciate a mod or admin chiming in on this subject.

Thanks

Most of the features that make visible for the users are put out of operation here on the forum, sometimes it's nice to see what members have of avatar and signature! But this makes the forum need more storage space and many distractions. Anyway for me this has not any significance :)
