When the air race was run, were the aircraft given a paricular route to fly or was it up to individual crews to make depending on the aircraft type and performance considerations etc?

Anyone have a list of the competitors?

Staionair8 I can do better than that, I have on my wall in my home office a map produced in 1934 that shows the contestants, their aircraft plus a large map of the route (much of it coloured red -why I couldn't guess).

The best part of this map is that who ever bought it had taken to trouble to ink out those aircraft that were scratched or pull out during the course of the race.

If you message me I take a picture and send it to you.

Cheers
