Any info on FlightSafety putting in a 139 sim? I had talked to them at the last HAI, and they were talking about maybe putting one in LA in 2011. I'd like to know if it will be in the Layfayette facility or a new one in Lake Charles or elsewhere. Any idea when?

Presently the only 139 sim is at Morristown, NJ at Simuflite. I don't believe that FSI would put a sim at Lake Charles. That is an ERA facility and too close to Lafayette. Lafayette is probably the first choice of where they would put it. While it doesn't have the best airlines connections, FSI has never worried about that. West Palm Beach and Hurst would be possibilities, they are Sikorsky and Bell oriented facilities.

True that the only 139 sim in US is at Morristown, NJ at Simuflite facility, but it's not a Simuflite sim. It's called Rotorsim, a kind of joint venture between CAE and Agusta, that's what they told me early this year when I was there.

If Lake Charles is an ERA facility then it make sense, from what I heard ERA is the first Agusta client with a lot of firm orders and options, even more than CHC which comes second ...

When? no idea, but with so many 139 flying now both Morristown NJ and Sesto Italy should be fully booked with initial and recurrent training, so for sure there is a serious need for a third one !

Flight Safety is trying to make Lafayette their premier non-aligned helicopter facility. So I can not foresee them putting a simulator in Lake Charles. First of all ERA is a training competitor. Also Flight Safety is sim manufacturer and ERA has purchased several of Frasca's sims.

I am aware that the 139 is a joint venture. However, they do advertise it as one of the their programs on their website. Simuflite has done this before. Many years ago they did a Citation program with American Airlines. And they are doing a Bell 412 program in Dubai, but I can't remember who they are working with right now.

Era Training Center is installing a level-6 Frasca-manufactured AW139 sim. It is being developed in conjunction with Agusta.

I've trained at Sesto and Morristown, I'm really interested in seeing how FlightSafety will conduct training if they open a 139 Sim. Agusta has got their own agenda going at their training facilities. I'd like to compare how FlightSafety chooses to deliver recurrent training and a PPE. Maybe a little less emphasis on CAT - A maneuvers. Nice to train for, but not my main concern when preparing for a PPE.

I'm thinking that the ERA program with the level 6 FRASCA sims is just going to be a prelude to in-aircraft training and checking. I've had great experiences going to FlightSafety for recurrents in other aircraft, looking forward to hearing something official as to whether they're really going to do the 139, when and where.

I've trained at Flight Safety in USA and at Sesto. I may have been lucky but the training that I had at Flight Safety on the 6 occasions that I was there was excellent - knowledgeable instructors who knew how to teach.

I have not been to Morristown yet but found the training at Sesto to be very poor and so disorganised it wasn't funny - maybe I was unlucky that time? The light blue flying suits that the instructors wore were very nice though.

Epiphany, you were not just unlucky the training at sesto is terrible, a bit of a mess and clueless as UM Lifting says so stay clear of it

So now 3 centers providing training on the AW139: Sesto(Italy) with Agusta, Morristown(NJ, USA) with CAE and Lake Charles(LA, USA) with ERA...
Is it confirmed that the the 4th center will be the Matrix Loop? Seems like it judging by the job adds for AW 139 INSTRUCTOR PILOT by FSI, Lafayette. The AW139 is still not listed on the website though:ooh:

You forgot Doha............CHC are using Gulf Helicopters Sim!

CHC have entered into a exclusive long term agreement with CAE to provide ALL of the sim training at their locations around the world.

If CHC is using Gulf Helicopters' sim (which I suspect they are not), they won't be using it for long

I suspect they are!:)

Short term thou, 139 sim slots are hard to get at the moment!

Didn't know about Doha, but back to the original thread, has FSI started an AW-139 Initial/Recurrent Pilot training program?

I talked with Flight Safety at HeliExpo. Originally it was planned to put an EC135 sim in Lafayette. But instead they are putting it in the DFW facility and an AW139 sim in at Lafayette. From what I was told, it looks like it will be a couple of months before they start doing classes.

I am not quite sure about anyone using the Flight Simulator in Doha, perhaps the FTD.
Please tell me more about AW's "agenda" regarding training in accordance with the type rating as opposed to...What?.

Any news on any major change in policy regarding pilot training within Agusta?
