Hi,

McAfee keeps telling me my computer has Generic PUP.x!ep after a full scan. It won't delete the file or quarantine it.

I've tried to google to find out more but there's very little there.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks.

What's the location of the detected file? (Full path).

"PUP" is usually "potentially unwanted program".
"Gen" is "generic".
What the detection probably means is that there is a program somewhere on your computer that you may not want to have running as its behaviour or signature is close to or somewhat mimics that of a known malware.

Research this program, if the file path points you to it.

Thanks. McAfee says it's a unwanted program but not a virus. I've downloaded and run malwarebytes anti-malware and it's not found anything. McAfee doesn't give a path to the program.

hmmmm!

Have you purged System Restore ?

Antivirus Tools Cannot Clean Infected Files in the _Restore Folder (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/263455)

Been away for a while.... does mcafee at least give the program name, or file name?
There should be some info to that effect. If not, I wouldn't be very happy with it.
