They can take a REALLY long time to get released. Sometimes they don't even make it past interim status.

I think almost everyone here knows what happened. A flight that should have never left the ground that one.

Cheers XXX,
I just deleted my message as you repied, after I used the search function and found it straight away.

Actually I was out at Archer today...and i just searched Barry Hempel and I came to here , so as for 'most people know what happened', uh no, I remember the incident, knew of Barry but what turned up? Mechanical failure? I know I really should have paid more attention, but as I said I was out at Archerfield this evening and got to thinking of Barry...

Flieg, the following is the thread you want to read:

Coroner's Inquest is into day 7 today. Expected to go on for rest of week. Coroner will likely take months to release her report.

As quoted in another thread (http://www.pprune.org/dg-p-general-a...risbane-3.html (http://www.pprune.org/dg-p-general-aviation-questions/341235-yak-52-into-sea-brisbane-3.html) ):

So the truth will come out, family sensibilities or not, Mr Hempels life and times will be exposed to the public warts and all, then we all can determine if he was a legend or not.

And hopefully effective steps can then be taken to reduce/eliminate the chances of this sort of "accident" happening again!

The Inquest thread was closed by Bedderseagle who started the thread.

I suggested the thread was appropriate and have offered to re-open the thread. That is up to Bedderseagle.

As I understand it, Barry's last flight wasn't his only flight since his license was rescinded. I would be interested to know how this occurred right under the nose of CASA, ATCs, ATOs, Instructors, other aviation comnpanies - someone must have known something but did nothing?????

I can tell you with certainty that the Coroners report will answer all of those questions and more. A lot of people/organisations need to take a long hard look at themselves..............

Is ATO the Australian Tax Office?

Yes it is!

But TailWheel would have been referring to the guy that sits next to you when you get your licence. Ooooohhhh, that ATO ! ;)

Bedderseagle,
Could we request you please reopen the thread, and keep us all up to date with the proceedings, once it's aired in the Court, it''s all public information.
Of great concern is the process by which he had any CASA medical certification at all, given the hell many people go through, if they have medically quite minor issues, that are extremely unlikely to ever cause an in-flight incapacitation.
Tootle pip!!
PS: I am reliably advised that the Queensland Police have done a very very thorough job of investigation of the whole matter, and should be commended for a job well done. Lots of rocks have been turned over.
