Recently I have discovered I have many friends who have not been paid for two three or more months.

Personally I have not been paid for two months. What about you ?

Before we get all the vote with your feet or equivalent comments from the high and mighty, let me say that it's not as easy as that !

Walk and you will get nothing, stay and there's a possibility, albeit remote, you may, just get paid.

Our boss has stated he is above the law and anyone found reporting the company for non payment will be banned from ever working in the UAE forever.
( Would one want to if there was an alternative? )

Yes, I do know about the law in the UAE. Yes, I know about the salaries protection scheme, etc etc etc but they are enforced the same way the traffic laws are enforced - if the car that went past doing 180 kph has a low number or three digit number plate, possible repercussions prevent us enforcing the law , so nothing happens. Also the scale of salary abuse is so enormous, there are insufficient resources to follow up even a small percentage of complaints.

A small survey may be of value, so when were you paid last ?

Grow some balls and report non payment!! Unless you wish to join the poorer workers living in the desert... Poor buggers!

White Knight, Maybe you have replied to the wrong post ??

what does reporting non payment have to do with living in the desert ? Also, please read the title of the post; it doesn't relate to testicles or the poorer workers, or even 'poor buggers'.

When it comes to reporting non payment, the reality is somewhat different to the idealistic world some people imagine. The UAE has some well intentioned ideals but putting them into practice, policing them, and enforcing judgement are, in some areas, are totally ineffective. IMHO.

I won't make a comment about your physical attributes, but simply hope that you or others do not find themselves in the unfortunate position that, these days, more and more people find themselves.

I would guess you aren't the only one with this problem.

Most lawyers will accept a brief, description of your problem in the confines of a private office for a minimal charge. They would be the most helpful in determining/suggesting your most likely outcome - come up with a plan from that discussion.

Bring any contracts, legal paperwork associated with previous salary payments to your meeting with a "disinterested third party".

Good luck. CK

If you are not getting paid, then by telling your boss to shove it until you get paid, what have you lost. What is the point in working for nothing and being miserable, when you can spend your "non-payment" times sorting out a decent job. Don't get f@cked by these pr!cks. Good luck mate I hope you get it sorted.

thanks for the responses

trouble is, complain and you have nowhere to live, family here etc etc

this whole place is getting worse and worse. When I first flew in the Gulf 30 years ago, it was a good place to be.......

Things change.....

If your friends have not been paid for 2 or 3 months, I would suggest they contact the Ministry of Labour asap. They actually take these matters very seriously. Depending on where they work, they will either have to report the matter to the Ministry of Labour responsible for the Freezone or the standard one.
