Hi Guys,

I need some suggestion from anyone who knows about recency in India.

I have 300 hours from FAA with CPL also. I do not want to go back to USA. I wanted to do recency on single in India. I do not have single commercial in FAA. I have multi commercial with 80 hours on BE-76. However, I have come to know that I can fly on single for recency for about 20--22 hours and I will get my Indian CPL on single and later I will take my multi also either by giving technical exam or doing from USA later.

Right now, in order to get the CPL, I need to do recency in India. What all do I need to do for it?? I have cleared all DGCA papers along with RTR.

I think I need FRTOL and then SPL and then I can fly in some skool. However, do I need to just fill a form for FRTOL or have to give an exam also.

If anybody knows any good skool for my recency in India...please advice. It will be of great help.

Thanx all.

You can fly as much as you want on single engine, but bare minimum for recency is 15 hrs "PIC" in last 6 months.

Legally speaking only way you can log pilot in command time in India for recency is by taking an NOC from DGCA.

My advice: for a fun, fast and cheaper recency is to get your M1 visa and make a trip to USA.

i totally back that
you can get your multi recency done too
and moreover you will saved from the headache of getting the noc, appearing for oral exam for spl getting frtol

and you are more familiar with USA and your flying school so why not get it done from there

would be beneficial to you in all manner

@Rishabh,
I agree with Jimmy.Take a trip to US and you'll be done with recency flying in max. 15 days. However if you decide to stay in India and do your recency flying here I must say it will be a long and pain staking process (Licking of Babu & Flight School Personnel A**s included in the package for free!!!).I have a friend who has applied for an FRTOL atleast two and a half months prior and he still hasnt receieved his FRTO Licence yet.He has been calling DGCA & paying DGCA a personal visit now and then(Told you about licking Babu A**s being part of the package!!) but hasnt got a confirmed answer as to when he is going to get his FRTOL or what is the exact reason because of which his licence is getting delayed.Since you have an FAA licence you do not need to have an Indian SPL for doing the recency flying in India. Refer to the link given in this post.FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (http://dgca.nic.in/FAQ/FAQ.htm) . It Might prove to be of some help.
Best Regards

Also if it interests you, you can spend these 15 hrs to get the FAA ASEL add on to your multi CPL, who knows it may help you someday.

Would advice you to go abroad and do ur recency. My friends who did their recency in India had a really hard time. The flying schools are just gonna promise you that they'll do it fast but it would take them forever. And in case u decide to do that... you'll see all wat happens here is FLYING ON PAPER !!!

Was really surprised to know how people do their flying time..

And its not the students.... its the flying school which encourages such practices.

Don't even think abt it... Just go out and complete... You'll end up saving both time and money.

Thank you so much guys..The problem is that I have already applied for US visa twice for M1 and tourist. Both got declined for no f*****G reason.

My DGCA papers are getting expired in mid 2011, so thot of atleast do some hrs in india and retain my papers and get the license first. I applied in canada also, but everything takes so much time and also due to CWG, there is so much immigration happening at all embassy's that they r not willing to send u out with no good reason. I have explained them how imp. it is for me to do recency, but nothin helped.

So finally after trying for 8 months , I have decided to do it in india. I have few friends in India as CFI's...will try to do with them.

So was just worried, because I know no preocedure.

Any skools you guys have in mind??

Am surprised people give suggestion like that.... Oh come on !!!!!

Anyway... All i would suggest is be careful with the Indian Flying schools... My friend who did recency in india had a hard time... Don't pay them everything upfront !!

And ya u are gonna meet people like "alphabravocharlie" who will tel u to simply pay and get the recency done....

Choice is yours !!!

Thnx guyz...I have a question to you all.

I have a multi commercial from FAA. Now since I cannot go back to USA, I have heard that I can fly on single as I did my private and inst. on single for recency. The difference would be that I have to take a NOC from DGCA and then fly for about 20-22 hours.

IS this true? Can I fly like this?

To everyone looking for a honest place in US to get Indian recency done:
there is a place in Daytona Beach that has experience with Indian recency.
We have BE 76 at $186 wet.
Instructor rate at $33
You do the math.
We do not require money up front.
Pay as you go after each flight.
We cannot issue US visa but you can come on tourist visa
PM me for more info or scheduling.

Truthfully, I've been following this post and get more confused by the minute.

If I understand correctly....

You were in the USA and obtained a Private Licence and Instrument Rating, correct?

Next, you completed a Commercial Licence with Multi Engine, correct?

If this is true, then you are perfectly within your legal rights to fly either a multi engine airplane, or a single engine airplane.

The difference is that you can not operate the single engine aircraft for "Compensation or hire," whereas you can with the multi engine.

Take a close look at your FAA licence. It probably states something to the effect of "Commercial Pilot - Multi Engine Land. Private Pilot - Single Engine Priviledges".

The problem becomes that this licence is only good for USA registered aircraft unless you obtain a validation from the foreign country. For a CPL or ATPL, that's not difficult. But, I've never heard of it for a PPL, which in your case would be the qualifying licence.

My advise would be to find a FAA designated examiner in India (should be able to find one working for any number of the airlines there) and then complete the flight test for Single Engine CPL, which you can do on an any aircraft regardless of where it's registered. If you are somewhat current and have a passing mark on the PPL written exam, you could do that flight test in about two hours. This is EXACLY how I put Single Engine on my FAA licence.

Otherwise, there are several available instructors (examiners) in the UK who could do this for you. Check with any of the large flight training schools as many of them do the bi-annuals flight reviews, etc for FAA licence holders living and working there.

Hope this helps.

@piper gaurav : you can do it on a single because the 250 and 120 are part of your commercial license and not the mutli engine rating

Can someone help me out with this problem?

I have my FAA ME CPL license and it has been about 2 years since I got back from the US. Now I need to reapply for the M1 VISA right? My current VISA mentions its valid until October 2013, but someone from the VFS office said if you are out of the country for more than 5 months, then you need to reapply.

On the other hand, some students I have spoken to say its better to just go using the same VISA and they have no problems in the US.

I am confused :\

Why are people getting M1 visas to do recency? Just apply for a tourist visa and go! If you're not going to be there more than the duration of a tourist visa why bother?

If you feel bad about "lying", go do a bit of sighseeing at the same time then.

cyrilroy21

VFS is right in saying that M1 visa is not valid anymore if you have been out of the US for more than 6 months in a row .

You will have to get a new M1 visa allover again

This I believe should clear your doubt

You could do it on a tourist visa. Just go to any school and hire the hours. The BFR will be included.

Indore is good for recency but flying charges there are very high.My friend did it from there and he told that beside flying fee you have to pay airport charges + instructor charges like US + membership fee.

Please let me know about the club in Aligarh. Is it good?

anirudh_rao

The thing is I am not just going there to get my recency done but also my SE CPL. So I guess I have no choice but to reapply?

Some guys I know say that if you have a VISA until 2013, just go with it to the US and they won't stop you at the port of entry. Is that true?

mynameisjon

I've done TRs with tourist passes. You don't need a student visa, unless you're there for longer than the duration a tourist visa allows, PERIOD.

Quick question! It would be great if anyone can help me out.

I have my M1 until October 2013. Came back to India after getting my ME CPL in August 2010. Some people (including the VFS) say since I have been out of the US for more than 5 consecutive months, I need to reapply. But a few others say that they went using the same VISA, no problems. Any suggestions?

BTW, thank you three_green and everyone else for answering my previous question :ok:

@Anirudh..............Please email your query to [email protected] or call All India Helpline Number : 0120 - 6611411..............however i would strongly recommend you to do your recency in India. Why do you want to go back to the US when you know that DGCA will be more than happy to turn your application request down, citing any damn reason...............I did my flying from US too but did recency in India as they rejected my Visa three times. But today hearing what people have to say about DGCA rejecting applications of those people who did recency from abroad,I'm not complaining..............Trust me......follow my advice....do it in India........it may be a touch expensive but you wont be spending any money on your travelling, staying in India would be anytime less expensive and food again we can survive.........lastly its your call Because you are the PIC :ok:

Equinox

Were it just the matter of recency, I wouldn't have bothered going abroad. The problem, as I mentioned earlier, is that I have only a ME CPL and not a SE. And that too on the BE76. So staying back in India would mean, flying the PA34 for 10 hours and 15 additional on the C172, right? That turns out to be quite expensive.

Turned down 3 times for the VISA? Mind if I ask why??
