Sucks to be a passenger with VA.

I guess this is an example of the failures that a small international airline is subject to... They can't just replace the damaged aircraft with another of their own without it having a significant impact on the rest of the operation.

Not good news and obvious flow on effects but isn't it amazing the news hasn't picked up on it..........the usual suspects who publish any stories relating to certain airlines are very quiet.

Would Delta help out in this situation, given thier proposed codeshare agreement?

What did they hit to ground the aircraft for so long?

The Troll empire is too busy reporting on the Gillard Abbott tomfoolery,I am sure they will be back in the coming week or so looking for some more 'nuggets' so they can start writing more crap stories......

A poster on AFF mentioned it was in the local paper in BNE yesterday:

"Hundreds of V Aus pax bound for BNE were left stranded at LAC after their flight's aircraft reversed into infrastructure. Flight VA8 was due to leave LAX on Sat but was cancelled after the aircraft that was being towed reversed into a blast fence. A blast fence is a safety device that redirects the exhaust from a jet engine to prefent any damage.
VB group spokewoman Melissa Thomson said the 339 affected customers were put on alternative flights to ensure they were able to reach their destination. Bne resident Nick Wellwood, whose wife was travelling on the affected flight, said he was unable to contact her & said V Aus would not give him any info about problems with the flight.
V Aus said they could not give out pax info due to privacy reasons."

Not a direct quote!

If it hit ANYTHING it would ground it for a long time. It's not a tractor.....

This is not the first time at KLAX, an Air NZ 744 suffered damage from the same incident a few months back.

The push back out of gate 38 Terminal 3 at LAX is tight, we have had close encounters before but no contact. The local ground crew their mostly look like something from an old 70s Westerns, if you get my drift.

gate4, V won't be happy about that photo being shared around. They have been working overtime trying to keep any pics under wraps. Even punted an employee from The Village for spreading pics around.
Seems LAX is bad news for any Aussie AOC holder ?

heh, i think it's just bad news full stop. it's a very congested joint and mishaps like these are inevitable, unfortunately.

Looks expensive...

Last week I looked, the LAX flights are full to the brim with staff travellers backed up to the dozen in LAX.
Can't offer a seat they don't have.

The elevator and stab tips were replaced and the aircraft was back in service within a couple of days of the incident.
