RM8 billion MAS loss: Who is protecting Tajuddin? (http://malaysia-today.net/mtcolumns/newscommentaries/33856-rm8-billion-mas-loss-who-is-protecting-tajuddin-)

By Qayum Rahman, Free Malaysia Today
Who is protecting former Malaysia Airlines Sdn Bhd (MAS) chairman Tajuddin Ramli from being investigated in relation to the RM8 billion loss the airline suffered in 2002? This was the question posed by PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub at a news conference earlier today.
Displaying a document related to the RM8 billion loss, he asked why the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had not taken action on a complaint lodged against Tajuddin.

He also asked why MACC had forwarded the complaint to the Commercial Crime Investigation Department.

“Who is protecting this criminal and this big case from being investigated?

“We want to know why MACC did not act on a report lodged by MAS against Tajuddin . MACC should have investigated the report but it instead forwarded the complaint to the Commercial Crime Investigation Departmednt,” he said.

Salahuddin also showed reporters a letter dated March 26, 2007 from the former Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Ramli Yusoff to then prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

The letter detailed the allegation against Tajuddin.

“Ramli had a special meeting with Abdullah where he explained that the contents of the letter were sufficient evidence to charge Tajudin.

“Even the Commercial Crime Investigation Department had made several proposals for prosecution but no drastic action had been taken in the case,” he said.

Salahuddin added that there appeared to be a conspiracy between the MACC and the police.

“Going by this document, MAS is of the opinion that MACC’s disclosure of the matter to the police shows a collaboration to cover up the loss

The answer : probably in the picture!

MAS was a buffet train then and still is. The big guys misappropriated millions to add to their ill gotten gains and smaller fishes snipped away thousands. Remember the double dipping when MAS was tied up with Jet Airways. The MACC should try to get the smaller fishes and then with luck, nap some medium sized one. Dare I hope?

Yeah, start with the small fish and get them to sing like a canary? Now, don't get me started on the corrupted low lifes that cause MAS to haemorrhage. It was bloody sickening that all our hard work and goodwill went to waste.

True, MACC should go after the double dippers. At least we will have some wayang and the lato g-string to crap bricks in the desert.

Camel was in cahoots with TJ, still doubt even this **** head could dip into the golden chest. Naaah……..these two were small time ballsucking ****heads. TJ was into big stuff. Eliminate one and other will naturally get extinct.

Some insiders suspected that the pariah double dipped when he was seconded to Jet Airways; took gaji from both sides. The MAS-Jet agreement was quite vague wrt emoluments to the secondees, so the condehless pariah took advantage of the loophole ( or any smelly hole! )

As an outsider let me tell you what I think anout this MAS debacle, it's the definition of the Malaysian malaise. You just have to look at the number of responses to this thread. Complete apathy, couldn't care less attitude. Only bellyaching in the cockpit, over dinner or in the crew lounges. Always expecting others to fight on your behalf. Hear this and hear it well; others will NOT HELP YOU but WILL HELP TO SCREW YOU.

The few wasted years I spent in SEA in the 90's taught me that the MAS pilots and employees are the most yellow bellied people around with the management pulling wool over their eyes 100% of the time. Even their own association chiefs screwed and scammed the pilots with impunity.

With this kind and apathy and gross ignorance even of your basic rights, the powers to be will certainly have you all for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper to boot. Wake up people!

Infact the malaise tipsy is alluding to is exactly that most malaysians love to whine but when its time to stand up and be counted they all run for cover waiting to see who if any will put the first foot forward. If its favorable they will all come out and pat you on the back if its not they will pretend they don`t know you.

TF knows that all too well and thats why he got away with as much as he has with Airasia, he knows no one will dare and challege the status quo it will always be a win win for him, don`t believe me , go on i dare you.

Tipsy, I do take umbrage at your assertion that all the MAS employees were yellow bellied. We do have pilots who tried to put up a good fight but unfortunately were done in by fellow pilots and MAPA. MAPA turned a blind eye when seniors were bypassed; snaky pilots brown nosed to get themselves promoted ahead of others.

Having said that, Tipsy merely reiterated an " inconvenient " truth. There are plenty of chickens amongst MAS ranks, running away clucking to their coops whenever the management turn on the heat. Most are jaguh kampung, boasting to relatives, ex- school mates, friends about the great job as MAS pilots but utterly impotent facing the onslaught of deteriorating T & Cs.

I have no magic solution but we need to grow a little spine; to tackle the MAS malaise, we need to get rid of the patrons of the corrupt ranks of the upper management. To do that, we need to ensure that the SB doesn't go around threatening labour activist with the much hated ISA. So much to do folks, are you up to it?

Gotta agree with Tipsy on this one. I, too, spent a number of years in MAS. The apathy and lack of understanding of employer/employee rights in industrial relations was indeed appalling. I am talking about the vast majority in general; most choose to bury their head in the sand and accept whatever that is dished out by the management. They do certainly have a few exceptional guys who have wide experience and very cosmopolitan views but most were just hilly billies raised to positions well above their stations by the government's affirmative action. As the goverment dole out goodies and freebies to keep the dominant populace happy, the sense of apathy was engendered.

The then management under TR in the 90's robbed the employees and shareholders blind and the pilots were traumatised by the " camel " regime followed by the so called pigmy. The pilots were totally impotent out of ignorance and fear.

The blatant looting in MAS began before TR's time but on a smaller scale. During Kamaruddin's time, the omnoputras and royal families made millions through RM2 shell companies and the GSA fiasco. This is a post form another thread :

MAS scams
Years ago, I was in Seattle for an acceptance/delivery flight of a B734 but Boeing refused to release the plane due to lack of financing. Enquiries to MAS HQ drew a blank and we sat around helpless. Finally after some protracted haggling for 2 weeks, Boeing finally released the plane.

Back in KUL, I found out from a Bank Negara bigwig that MAS was almost done in by their own greedy directors and political patrons. It seemed that after the 1991 Gulf war, there was a severe downturn in the aviation industry and a lot of leasing companies like ILFC, GPA, etc gave up their options to purchase B734s.

Earlier in the late 1980's to cater for expansion, MAS commissioned a study by a consortium of banks to look into air travel expansion and development in the domestic and regional market from the year 1990 onwards for a period of 7 years. After some seemingly exhaustive studies, this consortium of banks stipulated a growth of about 10% a year for 5 years tapering off before 1996, hence they recommended a 50%-70% increase in the B734 fleet. MAS then had about 15 B734's and the consortium consented to financing further purchase of up to 12 more B734 aircraft. This exhaustive study was tabled to the MAS board for approval. The consortium never heard from MAS again, but MAS shortly announced purchase of over 40 more B734s!!! So where did MAS get the financing for such a humungous aircraft order?

The BN official related that when the aircraft purchase study was presented, the MAS directors immediately see $$$ in front of their greedy eyes. The st up their own aircraft leasing companies like Bunga Raya, bunga Cengkeh etc to be based in the Carirbean British and American Virgin Islands. These were $2 shell companies but got their financing from greedy US banks......SO THEY DID NOT NEED FINANCING FROM THE CONSORTIUM OF MALAYSIAN BANKS!!!

After the Gulf War in 1991 caused a downturn in the aviation sector, international aircraft leasing companies like ILFC and GPA quickly cut their losses and rejected their options for more B734 purchases. THE MAS DIRECTORS JUMPED AT THE CHANCE TO EXPEDITE THEIR PURCHASE BY TAKING OVER THOSE OPTIONS, hoping to make a killing with their shell companies. All was well and dandy for a few months until the US financers stop pumping money as they know that the end game was near...so the shell companies set up by the greedy MAS directors and their corrupt political patrons were starved of cash and they couldn't pay Boeing for the planes. Hence when we turned up in Seattle for aircraft acceptance and delivery, Boeing wanted nothing to do with us!

So the MAS MD went back to the Malaysian consortium of banks to help bail out the mess.....they told him to fly a kite! So he went begging around in the UK and US, and finally managed to get some financing at exorbitant rates.

I was sceptical of this revelation until I found evidence.....before financing was choked off from the shell companies in the British/American Virgin island; the B734s had proud Malaysian leasing companies like bunga cengkeh, bunga mawar on their owner's plaques in the cockpit. Aircraft that came after the financing debacle had MAS as the owner!!!

So MAS was a money buffet train ravished by our own $$$$ hungry demons. No hope lah; it is forever the same story till today.

Perhaps a short history lesson on MAS will put this in perspective. From its inception in the 70s to the late 80s, MAS was chugging along fine albeit with some inevitable small time corrupt practices where thousand or hundreds of thousand were filtered off. However from the early 90s, corruption went big time where millions were siphoned off culminating with this TR fella virtually ripping off MAS wholesale.

With saw huat lye and then tan sri aziz, MAS created a small niche market offering the " malaysian experience " to discerning air travellers. In the mid 80's when the snake charmer keralite black magician toon kutty established his hold over the malaysian psyche, MAS began to feel the pressure from the government. Some B737 VIP planes were procured to enable the PM charters whereby the PM dept hardly ever pay for the services. Then came the 1987 umno elections which the toon kutty " magically" won and in the ensuing political fiasco, tengku razaleigh left to form semangat 46. With his kelantanese background tan sri aziz threw his lot behind ku li and that spelled the end of his tenure in MAS.

In came a snaky guy called dato kamaruddin who allowed the directors and their umno patrons to set up shell companies that siphoned millions out of the coffers. This dato kamaruddin was a frequent golf kaki of the pariah g string and it was at this time when this reptilian MAPA president signed of the f/os' first class privilege travel, encouraged wanton bypass in pilot promotion in cohoots with Rat in management and tried establishing his " audit " empire in flight operations. The company lost millions with the shell companies digging into its kitty and the pilots were screwed big time by the pariah's dalliance with his strange bedfellows in the management.

The damage done in flight operations allowed the camel to collect enough ammunitions to stage a " coup " when TR was " invited " to buy over MAS in 1995. With the unreparable damage done by the camel, dr con was roped in to stem in the rot but the rot continued right into the pigmy's regime. The rot remains...........

TR connived with the dime and toon kutty to relieve himself of the rotting company in 2001 and I think the rest is fairly recent in memory.

MAS in general and Malaysia in particular will not get out of the rot unless our Malay brothers/sisters realised what governments after Tunku did that retrograded them to a " retard " status. The regressive policies and lack of natural justice that pervades Malaysian society has bred generations of people who strive to achieve " great things " without any meaningful work. They cheat, plunder, lie, rape and pillage with wanton abandon without an iota of guilt conscience. When caught or exposed in their dishonorable endeavours they fight back like cornered hyenas claiming that the actions of exposing them is tantamount as a kind of racist attack on their race or even worse, an attack on their religion! They then rouse racial and religious hatred aginst those who expose their misdeeds, waging a tacit form of jihad. If it all they realise they are wrong, they brush it off as insignificant as if others are made by God for them to abuse. Even if they feel guilty they think a quick trip to Mecca for hajj or umrah will completely exonerate them of their wrongdoings, giving them a clean slate to rape, plunder and pillage again. Sigh, unless they can rid their system and psyche of this inalienable " God given " right, we can wait till the sun rises in the west for anything to improve.

Aiyaa, elementary my friend! In the 90's same thing happened in MAS and bolehland. Everything seemed to be going well; everybody very senang hati, happy happy. MAS going to 6 continents, so MAS people so bloody proud. Bolehland had mamak kutty, proton wira, saga, twin towers and we were all lulled ito happy happy mood. Not sorry to see ignorant fools conned but it breaks one's heart to see the poor hapless folks struggling, eking out a meagre living taking 2, 3 jobs just to survive. If I may add, eventhough MAS pilots do have relatively good salaries things could have been much better and we would not have lost so many experienced and talented aviators overseas. True, the young uns and newbies are jubilant with the rapid promotion but largely undeserving with their poor level of experience and exposure. With this undeserving status comes a complacent and selfish mindset that explains the core of Malaysia's problems....a vicious cycle. This not Malay bashing. But why must we be consistently reminded, the Malays are the dominant group and their rights must be protected, and non Malays are forever the outsiders. Don`t you think for the 1 Malaysia concept to succeed, the G should stop with the race politics. It's tiring, really. We grew up with application forms asking us to tick our race. We should stop painting a negative image of the other races, stop thinking about 'us' and 'them' and focus on 'we', 'our' and 'Malaysians'.

No one should be made uncomfortable in their own home. A dear Chinese friend of mine said to me once, "I don't feel patriotic because I am not made to feel like Malaysia is my home, and I don't feel an affinity to China because I have never lived there.

The main reason why we still can't achieve total unity is because of this 'Malay rights' concept. I'd rather 'Malay rights' be replaced by human rights. So unless we get rid of this B'tra status, or reform our views and policies on rights, we will never achieve unity. Without unity, a failed State is imminent, whether we like or not! All Malaysian must be held accountable. No one should be protected to pilfer and plunder in the name of race or religion!!! My address here goes beyond TR`s scam that brought MAS to the brink of bankruptcy and NFA on respective police report.

I wish Malaysia would truly live up to the tourism spin of Malaysia truly Asia. Malaysians to lead - whatever their ethnic background. Only ONE NATIONALITY MALAYSIAN. No Malays, No Chinese, No Indians - ONLY MALAYSIANS. Choose whatever religion one is comfortable with.

TR was reportedly a proxy and front man for umno and toon mamak kutty as evidenced from his affidavit in some legal actions initiated.

As a front man he enjoyed the glamour of being the owner and chairman of the national carrier. As some of you can remember, before he could warm his seat as chairman, he was made the president of IATA by vested interests in the global airline industry. He was virtually in cloud nine feted by mat sallehs out to milk MAS; like a jaguh kampung riding high in the international arena. Likewise the minor jaguh kampungs get the cheap thrill of getting the super ranger flight chasing some meaningless round the world b777 non stop flight for MAS...didn't it ever occur to those hilly bilies that the mat salleh were setting them up for a big kill?:ugh::ugh::ugh::{
The subsequent purchase of the B777s and newer B744s made some very rich middlemen running leasing contracts.

Finally with the advent of the internet and alternative media, Malaysians now realise that almost all the evils plaguing the nation lead to toon mahatahi kutty and umno. But wait, can 65% of the population face reality? This 65% got falling crumbs from the black magician and his coterie, crumbs which they identified with racial and religious pride as their rite towards empowerment! Some of the crumbs are admittedly large, but when the fat cats acquire the cakes that the crumbs come from, they laid waste to the nation's future potential.

MAS is but one of the vehicles that the evil black magician used to loot the nation's wealth and dignity. Petronas, khazanah, PNB, the GLCs, banks...to many to enumerate here.

MAS pilots were lucky; the exodus of pilots to the Orient in the late 90s led to much better salaries. Good for the boys but bear in mind Petronas and taxpayers were roped into to salvage MAS time and again. Definitely a disaster for the nation, disaster for our children unless we get our kids to be MAS pilots for life, assuming the good salaries hold. Our kids who are unwilling to be pilots face a bleak future with the country turning into a Zimbabwe.

As for Mas pilots, a generally selfish lot who think their big salaries are the be all and end all of it. After so many years, Mapa has not safety committee, no welfare committee, no technical expertise to wrestle with the DCA and MOT over regulatory issues, etc.

Who cares about the MAS debacle? As long as the flyboys get the huge monthly gaji, who give a toss. The ground staff all have their side businesses, the grease monkeys get loads of overtime just sticking MR2 label and defer labels all over the aircraft. MAS is a gold mine. I cry for MAS. MAS pilots must take a severe pay cut. These fat cats are a bane. I travel very often, no thanks to company policy, and find MAS pilots terrible. Awful landings, poor communication skills and lousy PAs. Arrogant demeanour as if the whole country owe them a living...like Dr M said many years ago; we can run the national airline properly, let be closed and get other ASEAN based carriers run the show.

I am sick of Petronas coming in to rescue MAS time and again. Had it not for us, your salaries would never have been paid countless times!

By saying nothing, MAPA, MASEU and other unions/association are deemed to be complicit in this wholesale looting of the national carrier. MAPA and the other unions and associations should organise demonstations to demand a full enquiry ( a royal commission? ) to investigate this. MAPA must take the lead and initiative to mount a campaign to get a Royal Commission of Inquiry into this blatant robbery of public coffers. All through those years in the 90/00s, pilots have gradually been reduced to a role of bus/taxi drivers largely because our " leaders " were a bunch of truck drivers cum garbage collectors masquerading as slick flyboys. We are no longer looked up as the beacons leading the fight against the management that treat the employees like " herds " of beasts of burden. With all the information now in the public domain, pilots as rakyats in general must rise to the occasion and help put an end to this kind of wanton corruption.

When I was flying for MAS in the 90s the current MAPA president was the one who shutdown a good engine merely on the recognition of a LOP light without crosschecking against other engine parameters....only in MAS we have such people not held accountable, then made instructor, then promoted ahead of seniors. The same goes for other MAS big shot pilots who undeservingly get ahead thanks to cronyism, dubious affirmative actions and big time brown nosing!

MAS debacle, true but quite a touchy subject because most would be commenators don't want to get a call from SB amd MAsissy in the middle of the night and then get flung off the 14th floor of some gomen building!

Would all love to get to the bottom of all this, but I suspect your governments really love our present set up because you all can hold us to ransom; if you help overturn our present " architecture ", we might end up like the pricky S'poreans who can be quite assertive in the dealings with you " developed " nations. The atmosphere of fear is just the thing the gomen and big companies want to maintain in order to have submissive and compliant citizens and workers.
We are robbed and raped blind by these diabolical entities. Time to really speak up, get your local politicos to agitate and help the NGOs fight the fight for the common folks.
The call for a Royal Commission of Inquiries is a good start despite the fact that nothing much will eventuate. However the authorities will be put on notice that the citizens are no docile lambs due for slaughter. Moreover we can get access to more incriminating documents.

Talked at length with an old timer at MAS about this MAS debacle. He is afraid that MAS is no longer the flavour of the month for those robbers. MAS has been exposed as a buffet wagon and the Auditor General is secretly collecting evidence to be conveniently used for those cronies who fall by the wayside. With the proposed sky high building sucking in funds, PNB will definitely seek to dig into Petronas's pockets for funding and Petronas will certainly be in no position to rescue MAS from another disaster.

MAPA is certainly a lost cause in any move to reform MAS. The ranks and file in MAS closely mirror malaysian civil service; lots of deadwood and the company is propped up only by the fact that it is the national carrier. The pilot ranks are the same with lots of undeserving people in key positions.

Two Police Reports lodged against Tajuddin Ramli by MAS
I tracked Malaysia Today’s series on The Untold MAS Story: Part 1 to 10 and discovered that this is what we should already know and that is, during Tan Sri Tajudin Ramli’s time as Executive Chairman of Malaysia Airlines (MAS), the national airlines suffered losses in excess of RM8 billion, no small money by any measure. We are aware that Dr Mohamadon Abdullah and Dato’ JJ Ong of MAS had lodged two police reports alleging various breaches and fraud by Tajudin Ramli. It is known to us that the A-G Chambers had directed the police case to be NOD (No Offence Disclosed) and the file was thus closed.
http://dinmerican.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/mas-8-b-man2.jpg?w=300&h=200 (http://dinmerican.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/mas-8-b-man2.jpg) PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub claimed that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) jeopardised the investigation into the RM8 billion losses suffered by MAS more than 10 years ago.

MAS initially lost Arbitration Case
We know that because of the collusion between the Police and the A-G Chambers, MAS initially lost an arbitration case in relation to MAS’s termination of a 10 years cargo handling contract with a German company called ACL GmbH (ACL) following Tajudin’s departure from MAS in 2001. ACL had insisted that MAS should perform that contract although it almost bankrupted MAS. ACL then claimed Euro 63 million (RM300 million) against MAS, although MAS claimed that the contract favoured Tajudin’s family companies. The European Arbitration Panel took a simple position. They couldn’t be bothered to help a Malaysian national company if the Malaysian authorities themselves want to cover up the case.

http://dinmerican.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/idris-jala.jpg?w=400&h=394 (http://dinmerican.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/idris-jala.jpg) Dato’ Seri Idris Jala as Managing Director of MAS had sought the assistance of Dato’ Ramli Yusuff, then Director of Commercial Crimes Investigations Dept (CCID), to re-open the investigations.

We also were told that Dato’ Seri Idris Jala as Managing Director of MAS had sought the assistance of Dato’ Ramli Yusuff, then Director of Commercial Crimes Investigations Dept (CCID), to re-open the investigations. We know that Dato’ Ramli Yusuf, accompanied by Idris Jala and the MAS Board of Directors, briefed former Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi and recommended that Tajudin should be charged for various offences. And I have written before that instead of charging Tajudin Ramli, the Anti-Corruption Agency, now known as the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC), charged Dato’ Ramli and Lawyer Rosli Dahlan in 2007. So the case was closed for the second time. Idris Jala was then appointed as a government Minister, yet the case remained closed. Complicated? Not yet, read on.
Tajuddin’s Deceit
We then know that MAS managed to get new information about Tajudin’s deceit through a web of companies in order to hide his ultimate ownership. So we know that the supposedly German company called ACL GmbH is actually owned by Tajudin and this fact was presented to the European Arbitration Panel. Consequently, the European Arbitration Panel awarded a small sum of Euro 5.5 million against ACL’s claim of Euro 63 million. Despite the initial finding, the Europeans do have fair sense of justice when hard evidence were presented to them, and thus awarded ACL only a paltry sum because they too did not want Tajudin to benefit from this crooked deal.

http://dinmerican.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/a4-leave3-with-lawyer_resize.jpg?w=300&h=191 (http://dinmerican.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/a4-leave3-with-lawyer_resize.jpg) Instead of charging Tajudin Ramli, the Anti-Corruption Agency, now known as the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC), charged Dato’ Ramli and Lawyer Rosli Dahlan in 2007.

But what happens when the same evidence are presented to our local authorities? They charge the innocent and cover up for the crook. That is what happens here in Malaysia – Bolehland, where everything is possible. So you have Dato’ Ramli Yusuff and Lawyer Rosli Dahlan being charged but Tajudin Ramli remain a free wealthy rich man until today.
It’s all a Family Affair
The Managing Director of MASKargo, Shahari Sulaiman, lodged a report with the MACC in 2009. From that report, we know that the main front-man for Tajudin is Shahidan Shafie who is the cousin and adopted brother of Rizana Daud. Tajudin appointed Rizana as the Company- Secretary of MAS in order to cover up all his tracks. Tajudin trusted Rizana because she is married to his brother, Bistamam Ramli. So, all this camouflaging is done in the family. A real web of deceit!

Who would stand up against that dog? The squirrel's mother/friend/relative? Wouldn't the one trying to help be also devoured by the black dog?
What chance does the small squiggly squirrel have against the might of the ferocious black dog?
But the small one was not about to yield to the badness of the dog. He was not about to squirm on the tree in safety while looking at his friend/relative/baby being chewed up as dinner by the black dog.
No.
The small one was not wrapped in apathy, fear and total self-pity like some cry babies who whine and whine and whine but do nothing to protect their rights from being eroded. The small one was going to stand up and be counted. The small one was going to use whatever it has to fight. It was not going to sit idle looking at the dog devouring one of its own.
The small one was going to fight.

Well the MAS issue is whitewashed over.:{ See this :

MAS Scandal
But the public did not see that happening in the MAS Scandal. Why is that so? Why the big cover-up in MAS? Instead, the public saw a most frightening scene where the key persons investigating the MAS Scandal were brought down in a most brutal fashion.
The Director of Commercial Crimes, Dato’ Ramli Yusuff, was stripped of his Commissioner of Police rank, and then tried in the media on false accusations of being “The RM27 Million Cop”. In the end, the charge against Dato’ Ramli was nowhere near the much publicized RM 27 million but for some small change and for using an aircraft while on official duty in full uniform.
The public saw another frightening scene when a senior lawyer of a premier firm, Rosli Dahlan, was brutalized, publicly paraded in handcuffs and charged for defending Dato’ Ramli. Both the trials of Dato’ Ramli and En Rosli have disclosed some very disturbing and repulsive conducts of the officers of the AG’s Chambers and the MACC in fixing up a bad case.
Both were acquitted without their defence being called and with some damning statements being made by the Judges against the MACC witnesses. Despite the court findings that there were no crimes committed, AG Gani Patail immediately appealed? Why? Was that to serve some ulterior evil motives?
As a matter of priority, wouldn’t tax payer’s money be better spent to detect and apprehend the real crooks in the MAS Scandal? Why did the MACC and AG Gani Patail spend valuable time, resources and funding to so vociferously go after a Police Director and a lawyer who were unraveling the wrongdoings in MAS? Was that because Dato’ Ramli Yusuff and the CCID under him had recommended that Tajudin should be charged for various offences. This is one big screw up where the good guys got canned and crooks go scot free.
All in the Family
In the report lodged with the MACC by Shahari Sulaiman, the Managing Director of MASKargo, Shahari stated that the main front-man for Tajuddin is Shahidan Shafie who is the first cousin cum adopted brother of Rizana Daud. Tajuddin had appointed Rizana as the Company-Secretary of MAS in order to cover up all his tracks.
Tajuddin trusted Rizana because she is married to his brother, Bistamam Ramli. She is Tajuddin’s sister-in-law and by extension, that makes Shahidan as Tajuddin’s in-law (the Malay word is ipar-duai). Tajuddin’s web of deceit in camouflaging his interest in the companies that fleeced MAS have already been unraveled in the chart provided by Shahari to the MACC which surfaced sometime ago. The links and connection are so clear as follows:
That Shahidan is Tajuddin’s proxy is also clear because Shahidan has been named in various court documents filed by Tajuddin’s lawyers where Tajuddin is trying to do another deal with the Government. Tajudin is blackmailing the Government to settle or he will open a bigger can of worms. Tajuddin’s lawyers specifically mentioned Shahidan’s name as the new shareholder of Naluri Berhad which Tajuddin’s former corporate vehicle.
This is just another cover up disguised as a court sanctioned “ Global Settlement”. The following is page 2 of Tajuddin’s lawyer’s letter which had already surfaced earlier. And yet the MACC did nothing.

The resignation of Tan Sri Robert Phang from the MACC panel (READ HERE (http://www.malaysia-today.net/mtcolumns/letterssurat/37728-my-resignation-to-preserve-my-integrity-and-the-macc)) was actually something that was waiting to happen, two years in waiting to be exact. To understand this issue, plus to understand why the ex-Director of the CCID, Ramli Yusuff, and his lawyer, Rosli Dahlan, became victims of the MACC, AG and recently retired IGP, you have to read what we wrote back in 2009.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin
PART 1

In 1994, when Tan Sri Tajudin Ramli took control of MAS through his company, Naluri Berhad, Malaysia’s national airline had a cash reserve in excess of RM600 million. Seven years later, in 2001, when the government bought back MAS for the same price that Tajudin paid, the national airline had accumulated losses in excess of RM8 billion.

What happened to the RM600 million in cash? How did MAS lose as much as RM8 billion over just seven years after showing a profit before that? And why did the government buy back an almost bankrupt airline for the same price that it was sold to Tajudin?

We are talking about a plus of RM600 million down to a minus RM8 billion. Yet there was no discount on the share price. Tajudin got back every cent he paid after ‘bleeding’ the national airline to the tune of almost RM9 billion.

One man decided to launch an investigation into the affairs of MAS to get to the bottom of the whole thing. This man is Datuk Ramli Bin Yusuff, the Director of the Commercial Crime Division (CCD). And this man is now on trial after getting arrested for allegedly abusing his authority and for not declaring his assets.

The basis for launching the investigation was because MAS had earlier made two police reports. The police reports are Dang Wangi Report No. 347/02 dated 4 January 2002 and Dang Wangi Report No. 12532/05 dated 4 May 2005.

The Ramli Yusuff story: the real reason why he was brought down

Apparently, the AG was very unhappy that Ramli had sent the Prime Minister a letter recommending that those involved in the MAS scandal should face prosecution -- as this ‘undermined’ the AG Chambers that had directed that the case be referred to the Securities Commission for the offence to be compounded as a minor ‘technical offence’.

That was when they decided that Ramli had to be brought down.

Three charges for purported non-declaration of assets was brought against Ramli at the KL Sessions Court plus another charge in the KK Sessions Court in Sabah -- and the trials were conducted simultaneously.

The charge in KK was for Ramli’s alleged ‘abuse of power’ in using a police Cessna for his private use. It was also widely publicised that the charge named two civilians on board. That has since been dropped and that part of the charge has been amended.

It was also conveniently concealed from public knowledge that, at that time, Ramli was fully uniformed and on official duty as a police Director plus duly escorted by other uniformed police officers while attending pre-arranged and well-documented official meetings with a specified itinerary.

That the IGP appeared as the Prosecution’s 75th witness to give evidence against Ramli strengthened the allegation that this was a conspiracy to eliminate him. This is buttressed by the fact that even the judge remarked that the IGP’s evidence contradicted many of the evidence previously given by other senior officers and Directors.

Hey Mat Sapu... take a chill pill against the MAS boys and girls... they are only employees! If at all you want to take a swipe then take a swipe at the Powers that Be and not at the small fry!

Small fries or not, by their very silence and apathy they are deemed to be complicit in the debacle. As some wise man said quite sometime ago...the evil in this world pervades not due to evil men but because the good ones do nothing. Earlier in this thread some one had called for MAPA to take the lead in agitating for an RCI to investigate and bring the culprits to accountability; nothing but pig silence ensued.

If you are Malaysian why don't you write directly to the MACC! You yourself said evil happens when good men do nothing! Go to the Police Station file a report!

Why wait for MAPA and MAS pilots put it in the papers yourself... Get the whole country behind you...better yet get Anwar behind you! Wait a minute that might not be such a good idea.... Get Nurul Izzah and Karpal Singh behind you!

Hey smart arse, what makes you think I have not done that? I have made representations to certain quarters and they are taking it up. No, I have not contacted MACC; I reckon that to be futile exercise. With other NGOs, yes I did but here is not the place or time to reveal the cards. The only grouse is that we need more NGOs to get into the act. Nurul and Karpal? Well, the very NGO that I am in contact with is closely working with them but I have no direct access.

I would like to clarify the phrase " fairly reputable" in relation to MAS. It was in no way to diss the pilots that have come from MAS in fact to the contrary almost all I have flown with in the ME have been of good if not better standard.

The phrase was more in line with them as a 5 star carrier with budget like service standards. A bit of an oxymoron to me.

This xxx fella seem more like a saifool baharin clone, to be shafted up his six. To euthanise him would be too merciful.

Facts About Two Airlines (http://malaysia-today.net/mtcolumns/from-around-the-blogs/40821-facts-abt-2-airlines)

I am not sure if that article talks about SIA as the airline or SIA as the whole group. SIA's engineering and maintenance is a whole different company, I think it's called SIAEC...not too sure of the name.

So, maybe, SIA has offloaded most of their maintenance cost to SIAEC and doesn't really reflect the true amount in their book keeping.

It's easy for journalists to make sensational allegations and comparisons to stoke emotions. But in auditing, I think there are a lot of other stuff involved.
Just the fact that the journalist, or rather a blogger, just took income and converted it to MYR shows his reporting as too simplistic.

Actually, just based on the table posted on that article, most of the expenses in percentage seems almost identical between SIA and MAS, except for maintenance. Also, maybe, just maybe, MAS' aircraft are much older and therefore needs more maintenance. Maintaining those 30 odd B734 must be a huge cost for MAS.

I'm not accountant, so I take it all with a pinch of salt. I've read other successful airlines' financial reports and there seems more in their report as opposed to the article.

The 330's ,777's and 744's aren't brand new either.... so they too would add significantly to MH's maintenance cost.

Well, MAS has had a lot of creative accounting experience not discounting the possibility that SIA could possibly do the same. However from the track records of both companies, it's a no brainer as to which company is more credible.

Gerago, you probably thought that your post would have generated some discussion..........truth is nada, yeetleh, zilch. No MAS guys ever want to talk about it. They rather stick to the MAPA forum, why? In house ma; like MASEU, in house very easy to sweep things under the carpet!
Like bolehland, who cares where the f**k the country is heading as long I get cheap food, cheap petrol, cheap Indon maids ( " rogol "-able ones ), some stock market insider tips, etc. Same malaise in MAS.........

Rogol-able indon maids? Ha ha ha I guess there are more of those within the households of Mas pilots than anybody care to admit! If rice "orphan" can do it, dmk can do it so can many gatal fellas in canland.

Mas people have a kind of cojone-less self censorship. Hear no evil, see no evil and say no evil; just dish out the peanuts or else, they get the belacan!

The problem is the apathy and malaise( No pun intended)! :)

If MAS guys don't care, how do you expect the general populace to care? Tax-payers surely must demand accountability, our children must demand accountability as the nation's riches are squandered in endless bail outs.

Mapa and Mas people think pprune is a nuisance exposing the shenanigans within Mas and Mapa. We all know about the collusion between the two, and anything put out to members and pilots at large is nothing but " sandiwara ". Most local guys want unpleasant things to be kept inhouse, otherwise " jatuh" maruah lah!

Someone once wrote that MAS mirror the Malaysian society at large; I found this to be very true. Everyone over there like to pretend that all are going well and unpleasant things will go away. So what if some **** sticks one's jacket, the equatorial rain will wash it away one day!

MAS is in dire need of change, as is bolehland in general. The bad news have not been revealed yet; nicely and quietly swept under the carpet. Even when some bad stuff were leaked by some bloggers, all seem to be in a state of denial. I agree with Jambu, in private conversation with some MAS boys all the leaks over pprune, MT are all such a nuisance casting the mothership and motherland in bad light. Some even think that it's all the work of opposition cina kuis! Sigh, incurable, beyond redemption!

Debacle or not, MAS still in healthy shape paying MAS boys good salaries and allowances. Who gives the f**k to all the rumour mongers and doom sayers who always have nothing good to say about our national airline. To the ex MAS traitors, go and bury your silly heads in the sand. With the plunging US dollar, most of you will be dying to come back!
