A dear friend of mine has just opted for ANZ, because she lives a long way from LHR and would have found the short haul aspect of Mixed Fleet a real challenge. However, living as you do in Richmond I would strongly recommend Mixed Fleet because of the enormous opportunities to progress, the selection of routes, the bidding opportunities and (lets face it) we love BA!

Hope this helps.

Mixed fleet.

My 2 cents....

The Air NZ contracts are only temporary. Not good prospects for going perm at the moment as the new Aircraft has significantly less crew reqs. The current NZ role is really to fill the traiing reuqirement - they have even blacked out annual leave for all staff in Feb due to new 777-300er training.

You have 2 destiantions.... LAX and HKG - gets boring after a while.

At least with mixed fleet you are PERMANENT. You will also have more destiantions andbetter staff travel. NZ staff travel is flex for you and your nominee - but your 2 buddy passes are only for them to meet up with you or holiday with you.
Mixed fleet is also growing so more chance of prmotion I would think.

Ie they cant just use it at their leisure for independant travels.

The pay is significantly less on Mixed Fleet, however, and at Air NZ there are more opportunities for advancement within InFlight. My understanding is that with allowances, Mixed Fleet will pay the same hourly per diem rate that CityFlyer pays, and that is it. Air New Zealand still pays the good old fashioned way: meal allowances and overtime which significantly add to your take home pay. It might be nice to go different places, but if the pay is bad, after a while the novelty wears thin and you will find yourself looking for another job anyways, as being in a permanent flat share situation (with 4-5 people) as an adult gets very tiring. If you get paid well and have good leave allowance, you can go visit the world on your passes. The layovers are not like they used to be on Long Haul with BA, so your are looking at many night stops and perhaps even min rest on Euro trips (they do this to be competitive with low cost carriers). Looking at the original proposal of where Mixed Fleet will fly, it seems like it will be like the 'good old days' when East Africa came down to LGW in the '90s. You will fly to the horrid long haul destinations no one wants (and BA will do this purposely to ease the change of everyone being forced to Mixed Fleet eventually), and the over the top American boom towns in the USA, mixed in with lovely Eastern Euro ports of call. So, in the beginning, you will basically pay your dues. I would opt for LAX and HKG, long before EBB and SOF anyday.

yaletown - what about NZ being a temporary role and Mixed Fleet being perm?

I have heard 'through the grapevine' that some positions will not be temporary. The reality is, nothing is permanent these days even if marketed as that.
