Wrong Airfield?!

I was just reading a few comments on another thread about a US B-52 displaying over the wrong airfield when it should have been over Farnborough.

I remember my Dad telling me a story about an aircraft erroneously displaying over Manchester International in the late 80s/ early 90s when it should have been over Barton. My head is telling me a USAF F-111 but i may be wrong. Anybody have any gen on this or other examples?

USAF F-111 at Cambridge rather than Duxford.

American Airlines MD11 over a disused airfield south of Duxford.

Dutch F-16 at Kenley rather than Biggin (though I have recently been told that was a deliberate visit, but that's not what a member of the safety committee told me a few days after the event).

Think the Barton aircraft was also an F-111.

It should have been over Woodford, not Barton.

Not wrong field but wrong path.
A few years back at a Sywell display, a Hercules missed the display line and did a low pass over the car park setting off car alarms, then continued directly at low level over the spectators. Closest I've ever been to an airborne Herc.
The tower sounded pretty miffed and must have been treated to a Tom Cruise type flyby. Does anybody know if there were any consequences?

HD: it wasn't the fault of ATC, but the pilot powering up (8 engines don't forget) for his flypast just as the controller turned him onto final thereby overshooting his turn. This was preceded (not at the same airshow) by a B1 doing a flypast at Blackbushe and ignoring the controllers advice that it wasn't Farnborough.
Anyway the incident as told to me by a comtroller from Manchester was F100 Super Sabres which were meant to display at Woodford but did it at Ringway instead.

Sounds like a weak excuse for putting it through the centreline must try to remember that one!!:rolleyes:
Plus eight small engines same as four large or three bit larger or even two really big engines!?!?:confused:

I was told by an ATCO that the fast jet fighter lined up on MCR's old R/W 24 instead of Woodford's 25 and frightened the life out of ATC as the blips shot down the approach path somewhat faster than the norm.

It was a non-event anyway as far as Blackbushe was concerned because the entire Blackbushe ATZ was delegated from the Blackbushe FISO to Farnborough ATC at the time.

Not as well known as the B52 incident, but I remember this one aswell - seem to remember the "Bone" was dodging some fairly hefty CB activity at the time.

There was an incident at Manchester connected with Barton show as I was at Barton and I think it was meant to be an F111 and commentaor comes on and said that aircraft had called visual, nothing appeared at all on to hear that it had flown past Manchester
