OK,

Not normally this obsessive but....

I'm based in Stockport and approximately 1pm
yesterday we had something go over I didn't recognise
at all.

Swept low wing, DC9/MD80(ish) 4 rear engines as opposed
to two. Smokey and loud!

The only thing I thought it could be was an Il62
but it looked too small/ short *, and I don't think anyone's
operating them into the UK. Or.... I seem to remember something like
a BAC 1-11 with 4 engines.

Probably should have had a look at Arrivals but didn't get chance.

Any suggestions anyone?

Regards

DaveA

* Slant angle may mean I got the length wrong!

Possibly VC10?

Should have looked at UK Mil first!

I'll leave this open so you can have a laugh at my expense!

Hi
Yes it was an RAF VC-10 going to Air Livery for painting after major maintenance

Is this the same aircraft that flew over the southern end of Stoke on Thursday at about 1230BST.It was very low(dificult to be sure I know but it seemed to be in the same height band I bimbled around in years ago).It was heading about north I guess. One of my companions was sure it was a VC-10 but I wasn't certain.I had a tricky 5 iron shot to deal with at the time.

Diver Dave,
anyone who can't recognize the shape of the Vickers VC10/Super VC10 should be barred from PPruNe for life! :E
Seriously though, good spot. Find out when it is due to depart, phone in sick, (or whatever), and go and watch it take-off. :ok:
When you next see it, of course, it will be resplendent in new coat of paint!
A 1960s classic which, sadly, will not be around for much longer.
Enjoy!
