Afernoon all,

has anyone found that the CAA are starting to be of some use???

I've had a couple of encounters with them recently and must admit that i found them to be truly charming and helpful with regards to my queries and requirements flying R44's

Has the ash cloud left them eating humble pie and making themselves useful for once?

Anyone else had any similar experiences? - i used to stick to the assumption that they were a bunch of paper pushing regulatory ****ers but recent experiences are changing my perceptions

regards,

Night Owl

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I don't know about that; I've had some stars in my time. All brains and no common-sense:bored: and couldn't spell pragmatism, since it has more than 4 letters:D

But maybe they should coin an adage passed to me by a friend in USA describing the FAA "We're not happy til you're not happy"!

Night Owl, yes, I agree; I'm sure it's all down to personalities. I've had to deal with the staff of the GA Dept on a number of occasions recently. In particular, they have worked hard to get Rule 5(3)(c) permission paperwork to me at short notice, for which I've been very grateful. :ok:

GA dept are always helpful and full of very useful knowledge, they often know the sites we are asking about because they have dealt with them before and are able to pass on quite useful tips ("there's a lively noise complainer in that house 500m away" was one)

Our FOI is a man of great common sense and knowledge, he's done the job and knows all the wrinkles, so although I can't pull any wool over his eyes he often advises on the best way to achieve things, I've known him ten years and our standard, very rude greetings to one another have been known to cause white faces and trembling in the ops dept.
