Hi Guys

First post on this great forum.

This coming Friday and Saturday will be my first time Spotting at Heathrow. I'd really appreciate any tips and advice, we're staying at the Travel Inn on Bath Road.

Where is the best place to start from about 6am as I assume we'll catch a few of the long hauls around that time and as the day progresses where should we move too?

Probably gets asked all the time but does anyone happen to know the times of the various A380's?

We will have a car so moving around won't be too much of a problem.

Many Thanks

Myrtle Avenue near RWY 27L is a nice place to spot, especially if that runway is in use for landings.

If not then it is still a reasonably good place for departures, if 09R is being used for departures of course. I've only done spotting there, so can't comment on other locations.

This site is good:

Enjoy your trip!

But parking might!!

It is all walkable anyway. Suggest you carry photo ID just in case you are stopped by the Police. This has happened to me twice, once while on the North Fence and once whilst walking around the SW corner. Both times dealt with in a courteous manner and allowed to continue photographing (was going to say shooting but thought better):ok:

There's no need to carry photo ID. Don't encourage them, we're not in a Police state just yet. I never carry it, and having had a stern lecture from a gun toting PC Plod at LCY that I ought to carry my passport around with me in my own country, I now make a point not to carry any photo ID at all.

You'll be very unlucky to meet the Police on a weekend anyway. They can't afford the overtime.

My bank cards all have the same name so that always does the trick.

A car is worse than useless at Heathrow, all the spots are walkable using the Piccadilly Line from T5, T4 or Hatton Cross. There is also a good spot on the Southern Perimeter road when departing 27L that is good for heavy departures. It alsa has a handy petrol station for bathrooom breaks and food. Again walkable from T5 or more easily T4.

S1Echo, you may be right legally but I fear that it's people like you who eventually make life more difficult for all concerned. Not having to carry I/D is a quaint British principle which in reality is way out of date in these times. I have no problem whatsoever providing I/D in such locations if asked. It saves a lot of hassle for both you and the authorities.
