Hi there Swedish b*tch! :ok:

Well its a free forum so each dude is able to do what they want, but, I don't know how many hits you'll get or how much news there is in Sweden!

I mean, what's your civil helo population - 30 units? :}

Well anyway, can't really talk coz my own news thread isn't going so strong. Am trying to encourage regional consolidation so that each time the smallest thing happens you don't have to put up a new thread and which given the numer of EMS accidents we're having this year is just embarrassing.

Anyway, am sure it'll pick up. Good luck with it Yellow.

HM:cool:

ps: That Mi2 crash - there has to be something other than brushing against that tree as being the cause of the crash. I've chopped thru heavier timber with smaller blades and its not something that would put you on your back!

pps: Yeah, gettin outta the helo while turnin and burnin can actually save lives but here in the US you can get into alotta sh*t so we generally don't do it!

Thanks W2k. Quite why the Swedish accident board don't make any recommendations is pretty amazing! Would have thought there were enough anomolies to warrant some recommendations!

Most importantly, the very cause of the crash (restricted fuel flow) is not traced to its source - that's kinda curious!

It is a scandal that authorities where not able to convict the pilot for anything! One person lost his life, general public gets the impression that helicopters are dangerous, no AOC, no commercial licence, and then nothing. Not even a reccomendation from the accident board.:mad::mad:

Swedish Police Helicopter Despatched on SAR Mission to find Naked Women!

Naked women become lost in Swedish woods (http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/7939399/naked-women-become-lost-in-swedish-woods)

16:30 AEST Tue Aug 3 2010

By ninemsn staff
A search party was deployed to find three naked women who became lost in the Swedish forest.
The German nudists, aged 40, 50 and 56, wandered into the woods while camping outside Karlshamn in Sweden's south at about 4pm Sunday.
A police helicopter and sniffer dog teams scoured the area after friends raised the alarm that the nude walkers had failed to return to the lakeside cottage.
But the search party wasn't needed as the nude campers managed to find their own way home in the dark by about 10.30pm.

FYI Past News:

Sweden's Helicopter Wing is to exercise in the mountains in the north of the country next week as part of its preparation for international deployments.

The helicopters will operate from Abisko, where the environment of snow and high mountains is similar to that found in Afghanistan, the snow compares favourably with sand in the way in reacts in the presence of helicopters.

'This is one of the preparations for upcoming international efforts,' said Ulf Boman, head for the first helicopter squadron at in Luleå.

'Here we can train ourselves to fly and navigate in poor terrain and with limited visibility.' He also points out that the process of developing the capacity to carry out a technical service at a temporary base with little infrastructure is an important part of the exercise.

Crews will use the exercise to carry out a variety of take-offs and landings on the high peaks, narrow valleys, and on mountain shelves.
In a few weeks, the squadron will begin operations in the Gulf of Aden under the European Union's Operation Atalanta, with two A109 helicopters. Two Super Puma's locally designated Hkp10B will be sent to Afghanistan.

"I see it as an extremely important exercise for us when I know what we have before us," said Ulf Boman.

Approximately 140 people from the squadron (Luleå, Linköping, Ronneby, Sweden) are participating in the mountain exercise.

Anyone with up to date news on the Pumas in Afghanisatan and the 109s on anti-piracy ops please post!

Earlier this year the annual multi-national cold weather exercise hosted by Norway attracted the participation of the US for the first time since 2005.

Some of the operations took place on the northern Swedish coastline where cooperation between US high-speed assualt boats was met by support from the Austrian Army.

A small helicopter has crash landed on Mt. Esja which overlooks Reykjavík. The two men onboard were unharmed and made it down the mountain on their own accord.

Members of the search and rescue team Flugbjörgunarsveitin traveled to the mountain with the helicopter’s owner and took it to the hanger of the Icelandic Aircraft Accident Investigation Board, which will try to determine what went wrong, Morgunbladid reports.

[Helikopter type still waiting identification]

The rescue mission was conducted on three vehicles that were driven up a path which leads up the mountain from the lake Medalfellsvatn.
The weather was cold and stormy but the members of the convoy still managed to take the helicopter apart, place the pieces on a truck and drive it into town around 6 am yesterday morning.

Barentsburg is the second largest settlement on Svalbard with about 500 inhabitants mostly Russian and Ukrainian. The Russian-owned coal mining company Arktikugol has been mining coal there since 1932. During the Cold War Barentsburg was a hotbed of activity as the Russians attempted to expand their control over the islands.

Although Svalbard is under Norwegian sovereignty the unique Spitsbergen Treaty of 1920 allows citizens of signatory countries equal rights to exploit natural resources. Currently Russia is the only country to maintain such a presence. Russia maintains a consulate in Barentsburg which is the northernmost diplomatic mission of any kind in the world.

Nat Geo fights Swedish reindeer helicopter ban

National Geographic has appealed a ban on its photographers taking a helicopter into the Sarek national park, which Swedish officials said risked disturbing the indigenous Samis' grazing reindeer in the World Heritage wilderness.

Kathy Moran, senior editor at the magazine that has 40 million readers worldwide, in June asked Swedish officials to consider allowing Norwegian photographers Orsolya and Erlend Haarberg to fly into the far northern park with all their equipment.

That does not sit well with the Sami who make their living on the hills, which were classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

"Freelance photographers and filmmakers apply for the right to land all the time, but there is never such a hullabaloo when they are declined, it's just because it's National Geographic this time that people are kicking up a fuss," said Jakob Nygård, chairman of local Sami village council Sirges, whose 500 members together own more than 15,000 reindeer.

The US-based magazine was hoping, however, to get a landing permit as their photographers are lugging heavy equipment.
