First of all I must ask the moderators not to modify the title of this thread like they did with the " Israel attacks Iran" that became " What if Israel attacks Iran"
Israel will attack Iran..if they need to.
This says a lot about the level of real freedom that you can have just only on a ME forum... imagine in the real place it self. Someone in another website is suggesting that being PPRune a commercially operated website is getting some return into softening some of the topics on this forum in order to facilitate the intake of pilots by ME carriers. Also privacy might be in jeopardy So beware of your IP adress and use as I do a VPN pointing to some country far away from where you are and be very careful. I suggest you to invent stories and situation to make your profile as confused as possible.
Coming to the topic of the thread I asked a friend physiologist to give me an estimate of l the life expectancy reduction for a 30 years old pilot working 10 years at the present rythm ( 94 hours per month) and the quite peculiar type of flying in a place like let's say Dubaifor EK.
Taking into account type of ops, average time zone changes, prevalence of night flying, radiations exposure, the climate and pollution in Dubai , the culturally induced stress and some other variables he a a little empirically came out with a 1 to 3 years lifespan reduction.
Not bad. There is no issue with fatigue at EK... sure!!
Also DDT was safe.
Best wishes to the FO the suffered cardiac problems but that is just the beginning. Would be interesting to know by a competent cardiologist if his job and lifestyle had an impact on this. Competent cardiologist in Dubai...what a joke.

sheikmyarse, YOU are and still remain a MORON. Mate, suggest just to get out a bit, meet some people, make some friends and to get a life. Your ill minded mission and wrong perception of bad things done to you really bore us.
I hope you will get better one day my friend and I do wish you all the best on this long journey.

Okay, but where is the datum line?
Working for a Somali warlord, your life expectancy would be WORSE.
Working for a Greek, beer brewing monastary on top of Mount Athos, your life expectancy would be BETTER.

If you decide to move jet airplanes, it involves being irradiated, de-biorythmed and occasionaly scared.

In exchange you will be rewarded by seeing the most wonderful sunrises and sunsets inside a telephone booth sized closet together with a friend (on your right or left) who is dying to tell you everything about his recently failed marriage and/or the demanding b@tch who is his new mistress. Wuhahahahaha :E:E:E:E!!!!

MrMach you have a point there. I'm not saying that you shouldn't do it if you like it. For sure we all fly for a reason mainly cause we like it..as some one else may like to brew beer in a monastery. But go a little back in time. Ask Mr.AS how was his lifestyle in BA and you see my point. Since we have idiots just reacting like this to my provocations ( but the story is true ) this job will keep getting worst and worst. Unfortunately idiot's mother is always pregnant. The fact is that we have been lied to for too long.Profit and just profit on the skin of human being.
A friend of mine just died for prostate cancer he was 54. He was flying to the caribbean and dead heading back home immediately for the last five...

Sheiky, i can make you disappear if you wish. However, you are making a continued fool of yourself with every post. Even in the free world Internet forums are moderated, no difference here. Suggest you move on OK :ok:

Luton you are quite openly expressing your personal opinion about my post which I don't believe should be one of moderator prerogatives. Still thank you for letting me democratically express my opinion even if I'm a fool.
Back to the topic it could be interesting to know about this:

Sleep Duration and Longevity
Don't Sleep Too Short or Too Long
By Mark Stibich, Ph.D., About.com Guide
Updated October 30, 2008

Can your sleep habits impact your longevity? Research has shown that if you sleep too much or not enough, your risk of death increases significantly. This could be a result of the impact of sleep itself on overall health or it could be because other diseases impact both longevity and sleep duration.
Sleep Duration and Mortality - The Study

In one study, researchers followed over 21,000 twins for more than 22 years. They asked questions about the twins' sleep habits and looked at their longevity. Twins make great research subjects because most of them grew up in the same environment and the have the same (or similar) genetic make-ups. This way researchers can isolate the impact of a behavior (say, sleep duration) to an outcome (like longevity). However, in this study, researchers decided to pool the twin data together - this lost some of the benefit of using twins as a study group. It is not clear why they did this, probably something to do with the way the data was collected.
The participants were asked questions at the beginning of the study and 22 years later. The questions concerned sleep duration, use of sleep medications, and quality of sleep. Researchers were also able to collect data on each participant about their longevity.

The Results - Sleep Duration Linked to Longevity

What the researchers found was that if people slept less than 7 hours a night or more than 8 hours a night, they had an increased risk of death. For short sleep women, that increase was 21% (men: 26%) and for long sleeping women, the increase was 17% (men: 24%). If the participants reported using sleep medications, their risk for death also increased. Women using them had a 39% increase in risk while men had a 31% increase.
Over the course of the study, 30% of the participants changed their sleep habits. The most common change was to shift from stable sleep to short or long sleep. These shifts were also linked to increased risk of mortality.

There is no doubt that 'flying' as a profession is not conducive to good health. In the past some things were worse, such as aircraft pressurization, noise and 'air quality'. But previous generations of pilots had the luxury of working less hours.

Nowadays, the biggest issues wrt to our health....... is Flight Time Limitations. Not only are these rules interpreted differently by each and every airline, the governing authorities are not up to the task of ensuring that pilots are probably rested. The immediate concern is obviously flight safety which obviously is not a 'true' consideration for many airline managers. So why should we expect that the second big concern.... ''pilot long term health'''..... should even enter into their little minds?

Going to the gym or going for a run on layovers if your best option. But since we are working so much more, fewer pilots are inclined to make that effort.

The Canadians did a big survey of flying and life expectancy. It was many years ago, and it did not involve (AFAIK) ME flying.
The myth: Pilots retire and then they die. They have a shorter life expectancy than your average John Doe.

The survey found that pilots live longer and have better health than the average population, but had a higher risk of two specific ailments. Prostate cancer and leukemia.

Different times, different area and different FTL's for sure. It would be interesting to see a similar survey today, but most pilots I know take reasonably good care of themselves. They stay fit and the old habit of going on the piss on every layover is pretty much dead and buried. You all know what I mean.

I think the survey is still valid, and one EK pilot with a medical problem does not prove otherwise. Anybody have the Loss of license numbers for EK or any other ME carrier for that sake?

Sorry, I don't have a link to the survey, and I can't be bothered to search for it.

Mensaboy, you are on Airbus fleet, right ....as FBW needs less force= less muscles=gym. :ok:
All the best.

I am all for people being able to express their opinions, taking the Queen's shilling will vouch for that, however, opinions being like @rse#oles (everybody has one ) only informed opinions hold any weight.

Now no doubt that your opinion Sheiky is informed, my question is .......

Why oh why are you so obsessed with this part of the world and what happens in this part of the world when you have up sticks and moved on?

Surely (Shirley) its time to move on and get on with the rest of your life?

So good luck mate and onto my ignore list you go.
