I would like to clarify the benefits of each school at Moorabbin.

RVAC is a club and has a big fleet of aircraft including Cessna 152's, 172's, Warriors, a couple of Arrows and numerous other aircraft. They are generally older but in good condition. The Piper Warriors (all but one) are equipped with the Garmin 430 GPS so you can get familiar with the aircraft and GPS. They are a club and if you join you get reduced rates on the aircraft and only pay for the aircraft hire for AFR's (previously called BFR's)

MFS have newer Pipers and understandably are more expensive than other schools but have a quality product. The Moorabbin landing fees are included in the price, though. The clubhouse and aircraft are first rate. They have a very good simulator and good people.

MFT run a very good operation and their manager, Glen Buckley is one of the nicest and most genuine blokes in the business. They have Warriors, Cessna’s and twins. They also have a very good simulator. There are a couple of airline pilots working as instructors there in their down time.

There are also Tristar, MAS and Oxford, but Oxford are mainly interested in cadets and scholarships.

Tristar have Cessna 310's which are a good twin for people wishing to do their twin training or IFR in an advanced aircraft. Good family business.

So, what to do? It comes back to how much money you have, what you intend to do. I would suggest calling in to the schools and seeing where you feel most comfortable at.

All the best in flying.
