I was looking around the PIA Maintenance Area at Karachi this week and noticed 3 BAC 1-11 (could be ROMBAC) and was wondering if anyone knew a bit more about them. I have no photos or registrations, but understand they were with a local operator that went bust?

They are indeed Rombac. Serial numbers 404/6/7, registrations AP-BFD/E/F. Leased from Tarom by Aero Asia in 1993, lease ended in 1995 but One-Elevens unsaleable by then, so they have been parked at Karachi for 15 years, although others in the fleet went back to Rombac. Aero Asia moved on to Yak-42s, another unlikely type for the region. It was sold to new investors in 2006, and closed down in 2007, but those One-Elevens were parked long before that.

Thank you for the response. I wish I had taken my camera. Lots of interesting aircraft as well as the old Pan Am and BOAC Maintenance Facilities.

WHBM, AA stopped operating due to problems with the leased MDs but the AOC is still in force and can be reactivated anytime.

Red 5, certainly not, I was having a good day until I saw the parked 1-11 and then the bad dreams returned. I am now back in Abu Dhabi and recovered from the experience.
