Hi All,

Only my 7th post but I have spent hours on pprune taking all the good advise from the more experienced "been there done that" guys:cool: Thank you for all your help thus far.

I recently completed my JAA PPL and now half way through ATPL ground studies (a long way to go, I know :ugh:...). Anyhow my question, albeit a terribly naive one. I recently received all the paperwork for the U.K government career development loan), the lady on the phone sounded confident that I could possible qualify for this scheme. However my question, are any of the schools in the US (i.e European Flight Training) on the career development register? I would imagine not, if not could anyone recommend any of the schools on this register within the London area.

I was hoping to use this loan towards my instructors rating but now not sure whether instead should look at using this towards my CPL? I am fortunate enough to perhaps secure a flying job in Africa as I have some contacts and all the needed work requirements/paperwork.

All advise would be most appreciated.

Thank you again

Great stuff... Her Majesty's Government pays the interest on your loan while you train... so you can then take your expertise elsewhere! :ugh:

Further to that, the cost of the course gets sent straight to the 'Learning Provider'. You never actually see the money. In essence, I can't really see an outside agency being accepted as a 'Learning Provider' given the current economic climate...

I know.
I used one of these things to pay for my ATPLs...

EFT were registered for CDL's but nobody used it so they didn't renew it.

Poose, there's no need for that condescending remark.

OP obviously is from and lives in the UK, so is eligible. As to how he takes advantage of the options, it's his call.
If he could sort a job outside UK to start with, first break - yeah, oh so easy to get bare CPL job in the UK, innit, these days, so why would anyone do their best to put the achieved qualifications to use and get extra rewards joining UK/EU airline later on paying hefty tax to HM Govt etc?

I see your registration date 2007, so presuming you were about to start or did your training that time, you've used CDL on the old terms/system. There have been some changes and as to my understanding, towards more flexible approach. I'm not sure there have to be any registrations as provider, as in the past. Still, has to be a legit training/studies.

fbartonik, presume you checked out this (http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/AdultLearning/FinancialHelpForAdultLearners/CareerDevelopmentLoans/DG_10033237) on direct.gov.uk.
Up to you, but if I were you, I'd use it towards a 'course' that lasts longer, so you take advantage of interest repayment, so long you still can finish up to what you need, ie CPL/IR or FI(R) on top. Not sure how it's done for, say ATPL theory with CPL, and projected finish of the whole venture would be after having done CPL, so having interest paid up until that time and starting to repay afterwards.
PCL/CDL is good thing to help you finish off. Don't rely on it for stuff right after PPL unless you got nice handy stash of money aside for the rest.

Actually with this loan you must be in the UK after your course has finished until you pay it off.
