Something new I've just found - what are your thoughts of them introducing these into the fleet?

It's a wet-lease for the rest of summer due to crew shortage, apparently. Not staying there!

Think the c/s looks rather tasty on a 757.

They’ve also leased G-OJIB, a 757 from Astraeus. Based at LGW and also looking pretty in its new orange colour scheme

Does anyone know what it costs to repaint a B757. Seems a large expense for just one summer?

easy1
15th Jun 2010, 19:06
Believe its costing them £385,000. I thinks that is per aircraft.

Off Stand
15th Jun 2010, 20:33
I don't think that they will have painted the whole aircraft (just look at the dirty fuselage of the Air Finland a/c). When ezy bought GB Airways, the tails weren't painted, but a 'sticker' was used to cover the tail. Not great as it tended to peel off quite easily. I am guessing that is what has been done on these 757's, much cheaper.

They have also leased Titan Airways 767 (G-POWD)

Does anyone have any idea what routes this will all run on?

Thanks

A bit of thread drift, but why have Easy never repainted G-TTIC?

FN-GM:

They have also leased Titan Airways 767 (G-POWD)

No they haven't.

They've leased Titan's B757 G-ZAPX which is why it flew to MAN last week for its respray into Easyjet colours.

Off Stand:

I don't think that they will have painted the whole aircraft

Wrong. It is a complete respray.

arthur harbrow,My guess is because they plan to off load the aircraft.

I think you got the decimal point in the wrong place, a decal would be about £17k and the paint would be about £40k

Off Stand
16th Jun 2010, 10:36
DW, if you look at the fuselage of the Air Finland a/c, especially the apu area and at doors 2L and 4L, it is filthy. That doesn't look like it's been repainted to me? G-OJIB AND G-ZAPX might be a different story perhaps?

16th Jun 2010, 11:17
OS - can't comment on the Finnair or OJIB. I saw one B757 in Easy colours at MAN the other day in Air Livery and that looked immaculate and sparkling.

G-ZAPX arrived last Thursday for a full respray and I think may be leaving tonight back to EGSS.

I'f the hangar doors are open tomorrow when we go past, I'll see what's in there.

Off Stand - I fully agree. If you compare the dirty marks with those on the aircraft in Air Finlands colours, they are the same. A good fuselage wash at the best.

Mr @ Spotty M
16th Jun 2010, 16:31
No way is the Air Finland OH-AFJ a respray, just because the a/c was inside or has been seen inside the Air Livery hangar, does it mean it has had a respray.
My guess most of what you see is decals (plastic covering) and not new paint, the flap fairings could also be decals.
You can see it has not been repainted by the dirty remains above the horizontal stabiliser.

Thanks Spotty M.Reference G-TTIC, i saw it in Lanzarote all white at least 18 months ago and flew on it yesterday.
Incidentally, presume Spotty M is Monarch.Recently flew with them, certainly gone downhill.

Don't discount it just yet.

It was in Air Livery for 4 days, so likely more than just decals, but less than a full repaint. Comparing before and after pictures I suspect that the tail and engine covers had a repaint, with both the Air Finland and Easyjet titles being decals that were switched. The going rate for a full repaint seems to be 7-8 days, so I'd be surprised if the fuselage got a new coat of white paint.

As a current "pilot in training" we didn't cover the weight / aero effect differences between a re-spray vs laminate stickers. Can anyone give details?

Its the same as all easyJet flights, but you can buy speedy boarding to get on first.

I see the 2nd Air Finland 757 has just joined the operation and is also painted up, this one looks cool as it has winglets

Sorry to dig up an old topic but there seems to be a lot of interest in these wet leased easyJet 752's and I have some first hand info. ;)

I flew on one on the 6th and 13th of August from Gatwick to Corfu and back.

I was on G-OJIB. After the initial excitement of remembering that it was the Iron Maiden tour plane, here is what I found:

I'm a frequent easyJet flier and their service is usually brilliant with their young Airbus 320's that have very reasonable leg room but G-OJIB had the typical 757 charter style legroom syndrome. I'm only 5ft8 and on the outbound journey I could barely squeeze MY legs in! On the way home I sat right at the back and legroom was a bit better though. The captain welcomed us with the message: 'Welcome to this easyJet flight to Corfu, operated by Astraeus'. The seats were dark blue with the typical fake leather plasticy finish and had thin, orange handkerchief looking things velcro'd on top which had pretty much all been ripped off before everyone had sat down as they couldn't even resist peoples arms rubbing on them. By the time I flew home a week later, the orange seat tops were nowhere to be seen :ok:. This was the only attempt made by easyJet to distinguish the interior. The entry system to the plane was the same as easyJet's usual. With 'SpeedyBoarders' going first and the rest of us fighting our way through like animals hahaha.

The plane is in very bad shape interior wise and definately showing its veteran 21 yr age. There was paint falling off and scratches everywhere along the interior panels and it had those 80's style dark brown aircon panels. Also the foldaway tables were falling off their hinges etc. It just looked very old and past it.

O yeah, something interesting I noticed too was that the 'Life vest under your seat' message that you can see when the foldaway table is folded up was also in Arabic above the English, clearly from G-OJIB's days leased to Saudi Arabian Airlines last year :8.

Despite G-OJIB being very old, worn and smelly inside it looked stunning in the easyJet livery and it was wonderful to fly in a 752 again after so many years. I've always loved the sound of 757 engines revving to full throttle on take off... A very raw sound :)

Hi am posting for the first time though my partner is a regular.
Saw OJIB depart Gatwick yesterday - looked beautiful in the sunshine.
We were there a couple of hours, whilst walking back another EJ 757 arrived, we were too far away to see the reg. How many 75's have EJ got based at Gatwick and how long for, I would love to fly on one instead of the usual Airbus.

It was in fact a good day for me as I'm a 757 fan, saw about 6 in total, havent seen so many in one day for years.

Off topic but still on 757's, presume all BA's at Heathrow are being got rid of, saw at least 3 last week round the old Concorde hanger looking very dejected and minus decals. Anyone know whats happening to them please? I hope they arent being BU?

Does anyone know what configuration the 757s are in? A quick search I found the following but may be wrong:

G-OJIB 226Y
G-ZAPX 195Y
OH-AFI 219Y
OH-AFJ 219Y

Looks like you get a better deal legroom wise on ZAPX!

Many thanks

Try Fedex for the BA B757s.

Yep.... FedEx are having the old BA 757s.

Think that all the remainder will transit thru the LGW Hangar for the End of Lease / PreSale checks.

Latest one ( ex PED ) departs this week.

i was looking at booking a flight from London or Liverpool to the Spain/Greece area of the world in Nov. Are there any particular routes or days of the week that could guarantee (or near guarantee) a flight on one of the leased 757s?

Are you sure? Seats very likely are leather; excellent fire-blocking qualities and can be easily cleaned (if anyone bothers to!).

Thanks for this info - though its so sad:sad:. At least they arent being broken up, but they deserve better than carting parcels around! I only hope Fedex occasionally might fly them into Heathrow and/or Gatwick, but guess they will end up at regional airports in the dead of night if they get to stay in the UK?.

I dont suppose anyone knows if any 757 will be preserved when they are all taken out of service - which is probably not too far away? We need to keep an example of this aircraft that was so far ahead of her time.

I havent seen a Monarch 757 for ages, have they got rid of all theirs now? Had a happy couple of journeys on them.

The 757 will be around for quite sometime yet. You will see them in abundance with Thomson, Jet2, Monarch, American and Continental to name but a few.
