Can any one give me any pointers as to which Trade Union would be good for Ground Handlers to join?

I have never been a "union person" but I think it might be useful at the moment.

Any suggestions welcomed either by PM or on here.

Thanks

It would depend on the company you work for and at which airport.

There would need to be a recognition agreement in place for the company to enter in to collective bargaining or pay and terms and conditions.

If you have never been in the union, what has changed to make you think you would benefit now? Like you, I have never felt the need. I know some people like the fringe benefits of discounts that can be available through the union (although you can often get as good a price through shopping around). A minority are of the militant mind set that has seen the BA strikes and some just want to join the party.

If there is an agreement in your place of work, you will get the benefits of collective bargaining anyway as they are not allowed to discriminate against union member or non members.

If you feel you are being unfairly treated, then you may find the support of the union helpful. If you have done something which could put your job at risk, there is not much that can be done by the union to change the outcome. If there are general redundancies etc, again, there is nothing the union can do to influence you being kept on over anyone else.

If you feel being a union member is good for you, go for it. For me, I have not felt the need and have not spent the money each month on subscriptions.

Good luck in what ever you decide
