Downloading youtube vids.

Can anyone help with a site that has free software to download youtube vids to my hard drive? I have tried googling the subject, and had nothing but trouble. I only want to download youtube vids, nothing else, so don't want software to rip DVD's or BluRay. I want something along the lines of just entering the relevant youtube page url for a vid, in a box and it downloads. (I did find some sites offering this, but was bombarded with ads for gambling sites, or for porn downloads, and couldn't get the downloads to work. Suppose I can now look forward to a ****load of spam mail for viagra and knob extensions :ugh:)

And if you want to then convert them to MP3, use Format Factory - takes about 20secs!

Or if you use FireFox there's an add on called 'Download helper' which does just that.

I been looking for a one that downloads HD 1080 clips more and more of them are appearing now,I can download em using YouTube downloader but they appear to play in a lower resolution.
I can stream em in 1081.

I just use the latest free version of real player. View the video, put the cursor over the video and box appears at the top with 'download video'. Just click on it and hey presto - sorted. It will continue to download the clip even if you navigate to other videos.

If you use Firefox, there's a plugin called FlashGot that works well. It can link in to the DownThemAll download manager too.

If you are on a mac, just open the Window>Activity and double click on the file (easily identifiable from the 2mb+ file size). Then view in VLC.

Hi folks, just wondering if anyone knows how to separate or remove the audio from a youtube clip?

I've used Youtube downloader to download it, but want to get rid of the audio so it's picture only, then dub in my own audio (joke present for a birthday).

I am planning to use Power Producer to edit the video, and Audacity to compile a dubbed soundtrack and then hopefully stick them together, if possible!

Other software may be more appropriate, if anyone's got any ideas (preferably free stuff - the quality doesn't have to be great).

Any tips greatly appreciated.

You could try 'Windows movie maker', it's free from Microsoft. You need to convert the video to MP4 or AVi though but there are plenty of free programs to do that.

what is the best way to capture just the audio track from a Youtube video? in MP3 format would be fine.

The way I've done it is to use one of the aforementioned add-ons to save the FLV or M4V file to disk, then open it in VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) and use its Convert/Save option. It can save to MP3 directly, though I prefer to save to WAV and use a separate MP3 encoder (LAME (http://lame.sourceforge.net/)) on that so I can fine-tune the process.

It's easy to use, and it's amazingly fast.

To do what I needed to do (take youtube video, get rid of the soundtrack and dub in my own), I've worked this way, if anyone else needs to do it:

Download vids with Youtube downloader.

Load them into Windows Movie Maker, turn down the audio and just overlay my own .wavs from Audacity.

I also needed to convert audio recorded by Windows Sound Recorder to .wavs so Audacity could work with them, and used Virtual Dub to do that.

Prism video file converter has also been handy.

All this stuff is freeware and I've had no problems with any of it so far.
