Blimey, these things only normally turn up when the President is in the neighbourhood. Where is it parked, as secure parking isn't exactly plentiful at LHR, cargo, vip ?

Totally unrelated, but boeing nonetheless, who does the 727 and 747SP belong to that have landed at LHR in the last hour ? Both white bodied and with a Chinese CAAC red oblique on the tail ?

VP Joe Biden is in Egypt; then going to RSA for the kickoff.

Maybe they think AF2 is safer sitting at EGLL than elsewhere ?

It is parked on stand 603 at Heathrow, a cargo stand.

The 727 & 747SP are probably Bahraini aircraft

The 747SP looks like A9C-HAK

That's the one! The 727 was the same, it really does look like the CAAC colour scheme though to my eyes.

So does anyone care to venture as to why a kingpin in the US nuclear deterrent is at LHR for several days ? Wouldn't the security of such an expensive and sensitive aircraft be better served on a US military base, not 100miles north-east of where it now sits ?

Yes, using the super secret stealth underground runway between the various housing developments. Don't tell me you hadn't heard of it ? :suspect: I, of course, meant Lakenheath.

Possibly Obama has sent a crew over to kidnap the board of BP.

Well, they seem to have no better ideas ......

Was there any connection with the USAF C-17 which arrrived just before 2pm on Wednesday 9th?

On the other hand, playing "devil's advocate", Dave 'call me Dave' has pitched-up in Afghanistan this morning ... any connection between the two events?

Come on everyone : Defence Secretary Gates usually travels in an E-4B, nothing more than that.

OK Having talked to my plants: It obvious; The anti BP rhetoric emmanating from elsewhere has forced the UK to consider becomming part of the Non aligned movement with consequent changes to some elements the hardware; that supports the 'purely defensive' international stance, that Britian has taken since the end of WWII.

Sounds like someone important is having Tea with 'Dave'
and No Biscuits (Or you cannot watch the Footie; the World Cup in the USA ) - Perhaps "football" is not the best analogy in this case.

Looks serious

Question...

The US air force have issued an RFP for replacement of the two VC-25As, apparently because they are becoming expensive to maintain. It was suggested that as they are based on 747-200s, many components are becoming more difficult and expensive to source...

If so, where does that leave the four E4s? Much older airframes, based on 747-100 and 747-200...
