Does anyone have a clue of a 5t capacity aircraft for flights from Nairobi- Bossasso in Puntland (Somalia).

My company is looking for a respective aircraft. The ATR 42-300 was offered but could only carry 4t due to the range required.

Any advise of a suitable aircraft would be appreciated and maybe you do as well know who would be willing to lease on a flexible and superb ACMI rate.

thanks

Must admit, my knowledge of African geograph is somewhat limited. I can easily place NBO on a map, and Somalia as well - but not Bossaso. So with that disclaimer in mind, you might want to have a look at an An-26B, they can carry a max of around 5.5 tons.

Plenty of operators to choose from, albeit none that I know of who ply the skies of Eastern Africa.

yeah, was thinking of the russian aircraft but they have all been banned from Kenyan airspace. The code for bossasso is BSA. NBO-BSA should be around 3-4 hours with the ATR cruise speed.

Try a Dash-8 Q400!

That would be great if you want to experience a gear collapse up close and personal :E Besides, the Qrash-400 doesn't come cheap.

Saab 340B has a maximum payload of around 3.9 tons, might be worth having a look at, though I appreciate it's 1 ton short of your target. But it's a very rugged machine, and since Mesaba have anncounced they're dumping all theirs, they might be available at favourable rates. Try contacting RAF Avia and see what they can offer.

Another option could be the Fokker-50, if you can find one. I believe Farnair operates a few, you could try them. Don't know if a Fokker-27 could do the job, but try MiniLiner and see what they have to say about it.

For the distance and tonnage, the obvious answer is an ATR72 freighter. But for an operation into Somalia, the "I" (Insurance) in ACMI won't come cheap - operating to a failed state and all that...

Cheers

Would the ATP be an option?

Well,

What about the CRJ-200, the passenger converted ?
It is certified up to 23133 kg MTOW, and there is a company that operates the same type ofairplane in Nairobi, but for pax.

What I don't now if there is any suitable and ready to fly there.
Good luck my friend !

try the Convair's. Im thinking the Convair 580 should be more than capable and I hear they are fast and reliable machines :ok:
