Ended up with lot of time close to Orly recently and visited one of the small villages close by called Wissous which is close to the runway and was suprised to find that local park was named after a US Aircrew member from WW2.

After asking about it I was also directed to the War memorial in the village which had a special plaque alongside the memorial to the local dead in WW1 and WW2 with the details of the members of the 4 aircrew who died. Each year apparently the town honours the memory of the men who died and welcomes back veterans of the 447th.

It was a B-17 originally named Hi-Jinx with suggestions it could have been renamed Old Man.

On the day in question its nice to be able to remember a number of brave souls far from home.
