View Full Version : Requesting a fly past - is it possible?

I'm getting married on the 11th June 2010 at 2pm. What are the chances of getting something fast and pointy to do a flypast for the occasion?

It would mean a great deal to me and my two sons, and im just floating the idea so to speak.

Is there a possibility or am i hoping for too much?

best regards

Easy Peasy. Just ask.

How about the Red Arrows? They will do you a fly past.

RAF Red Arrows - Requesting a Display or Flypast (http://www.raf.mod.uk/reds/displayinfo/requestdisplsyflypast.cfm)

Although

The Team are not permitted to carry out flypasts for weddings, funerals or birthdays."

Tell them its for a Barmitzvah and you'll be fine

thanks for the reply. I did do some initial research into the 'proper channels' prior to posting this up.

sadly, any official requests for RAF display aircraft (not just the reds) must have been submitted by september 2009 for this year, and we had not even planned the wedding then.

I was not going to aim for the reds as that seems a little out of reach, but if any of you chaps that drive the loud fast machinery were able to work up some magic then it would make an incredible day even more memorable.

cheers

TFC, 'tis a bit of a problem. If you'd said "I'm getting married at Grid Ref XX12345678 at 1400L on 11 June", you might cause a spectacular mid-air at 1400 plus or minus a few seconds.

The only way you could achieve your aim would be through 'mate-of-a-mate' contacts - asking on an open Internet forum simply isn't the way. Unless you've got some personal contacts who might 'happen to be passing', I'm afraid you haven't got much of a chance.

Good luck though - and all the best for the day.

beags, how did you know the grid reference??

On a serious note, you make a very good point. It would not be the nicest memory of the day should that happen.

My only problem is that i am a little lacking in the 'mate of a mate' line as you put it. I have seem to always been on the 'almost but not quite list.'

I could muster up an Islander or an MD902, but its not really the effect i am after.

I sure there must be someone who can put me on to a mate of a mate?

PM's always welcome.

thanks again.

TFC - I am assuming you are airborne Dibble :E wot catches bad'uns and has your footage appear on telly....

I'm sure if you were to offer a suitable bribe some crazy dude might PM you, the bribe might have to be some sort of pink slip that gets you off a big speeding ticket though........

Also is it true the only excuse that works when stopped is to apologise and explain your ex ran off with a traffic cop and you though they were trying to give her back??

Now get back to your donuts and await an India Whatever shout!!!

(This is what might be termed banter, it's not abuse)

TFC,

I cannot offer and BEagle has a good point. However to help narrow it down a bit, how far 'up north'. Nimrods are often game for a practice diversion if you are near an airfield.

Oh, forgot, we don't have Nimrods any more :(

Seriously, give a clue where you are at. 11 Jun at 1400 is not a bad time for a PD somewhere.

Nimrod MR2s withdrawn from service - 31 March 2010.

On the Red Arrows flypast requests a minimum of 8 weeks notice required apart from no weddings, birthdays,....

You are such a cheerful little soul, aren't you.....:\

If one of Ivan's submarines had ever threatened one of your little grey boats, you might have had cause to think otherwise, perhaps?

Beagle..

Unlike South Korea we don't have any boats worth sinking!!

And once the Con-dems have finished with their defence review the future boats won't be coming either.

I'm sure there's the odd 135 or Dauphin up there that could add effect to the event.
;)

Have a great day :ok:

Thanks Pontius, PM sent.

I'm deliberately not posting the location on the open forum.

oh, and Mr C, those too were my intial thoughts. but someone must still be up there at that time surely?

You sure the new Missus Dibble would be impressed at the guests knowing she's marrying a spotter?:suspect:

Usual insightful comment from vvha

Fortunately 1SL, 2SL and CTFs 67, 69 and 320 disagree with you.

Contact your local UAS TFC, if they are not to busy the might give you a fly past. It wont be "fast or pointy" but nevertheless, it would be a fly past.

Why? Are they coming back into service? Better get hold of XV229 quickly then

I once had to hover over the feather chirping code retain in order for the MR2 to be able to locate the SSK. They held contact for 7 minutes before going cold, getting fed up and going home. I'm not convinced we will miss the MR2.

Thinking laterally, depending on where the big day is you be able to persuade on of the private pointy jet operators to route via your wedding if they are re-positioning to Cosford or some other event that w/e? Suggest you give the nice chaps at Duxford and Kemble etc a call to see what their plans are for the day. Let's hope its not chucking it down.

XV299? Why would you want a C130? Sadly typical of your general attention to detail.:hmm:

I once held contact on Russian SSN for hours whilst the ASW frigate and all its little helos failed to find it! See we have all got stories like that.

And yes 1SL and 2SL put up a strong defence of the MR2 fleet last year; did you not know that? Oh dear not as "in" as you might like to think.

Sorry, thread creep:O

Didn't win though did they? But that was because CAS and ACAS didn't want it. But essentially, the support from 2SL was the nail in the coffin. 2SL is the chap who is responsible for personnel and naval shore establishments - not exactly frontline ASW is it?

anyway....too much thread creep.....

as previously mentioned, the best bet is to publish the Lat / Long or Grid position as well as the time you expect to walk out of the chapel with your new lady and see what happens.

A mid air collision by everyone who reads this just rocking up unannounced in whatever they are flying would be my guess.

Far better to organise beforehand IMHO.

You could always tell the new wifey that you have arranged a fly past by the latest Stealth aircraft. All the best for the wedding. :ok:

Google Grace Spitfire ML407.

The Grace Spitfire does a large number of Birthday, Wedding and Celebration private displays.....
In a 50 mile radius of Cambridge, for instance, the price would be for a 10 minute aerobatic display between £2,300.00 to £2,800.00 plus VAT and CAA clearance fee of £100.00 for a private display

Just buy her a smaller ring! :ok:

Getting back to the thread.....
I can understand why you would not want to put the L/L on here but a general idea of the area would be useful. I presume you're getting married up north (as that's where you say you are) but an idea of the nearest town might help others decide if it's feasible. You never know, there might be someone transiting on a Friday afternoon or some SH on their way for some tasking (unlikely!).
Give it a go and see if there's any progress.

About 3 years ago my neice was getting married on a saturday in Horsham. At the reception what I think was the BBMF Lancaster came wandering past in the distance.:) Lovely sound anyway

Then 2 weeks later at a friends daughter's wedding , another saturday, we were just taking photos outside the reception hall when the red arrows came wizzing past virtually overhead and very low.:D:D

Have you thought of looking at the air show schedule and rearranging the date and time and location of the ceremony to catch something transiting between displays?

Flying Cop, Many congratulations to you and the new Mrs F-C. :D

Hope your day went well and somebody flew past at the appointed hour.

Do tell us all about it when you get back from honeymoon.

Best wishes
