Real Definitionish..
Painted on a Radar map and shown in black and white or red, yellow green if you have new models and show where cloud masses are in the direction you are travelling. If the hole is closest to the radar paint then the contour gradient is steepest and you can determine the maximum region of turbulence and where a storm may be located

MY DEFINITION
They are usually the wettest when they are big and have the most turbulent updrafts n downdrafts around the hooked finger thats touching it!
