Were there any restrictions on freight aircraft flying during the ash cloud grounding of passenger aircraft ??

The restrictions applied to passenger flights as well as to cargo flights. No difference there.

Irespective of the type operator.Volcanic ash affect all powerplants similiarly.

Freighters stay out of the area, however the freight is trucked to the aircraft and moves on to its destination.
Freight can't be late, but people can always wait.

Just because there are less people on board a freighter, doesn't mean that any fewer people on the ground are at risk if ash does stop the donks in midair.

Hardly surprising then, is it?
With all the mass hysteria surrounding the latest volcanic ash in Europe/UK, and the complete lack of sensible thought process developed by the 'authorities'...what else can you expect?
This is all part and parcel of the apparent thought process in the region...
If it moves, tax it.
If you can tax it, overly regulate it.
If it thusly fails to work, it is not our responsibility.
