arh yes definetly Ash damage, probably caused by some sort of cannabis infusion with grey matter, best to inhale this sort of ash/debris rather than waste it on an engine.

You're partly right - it is damage.

definitely not, it already occured on Mar 01, 10, before any ash was around.

I was sure i'd seen this before, but couldn't remember in what context. Pretty certain it wasn't VA. I daresay if it was the paint would be in considerably worse state.

Looks a bit like a thrown blade or part thereof,, but the only other engine i've seen that threw a lump of metal down the intake didn't have as much ash / burn damage - it just rattled around for a bit, rounded off the remaining spools and shut itself down.

those stators vanes look really bad with a thick deposit of some sort.

I seem to recall seeing a report recently from Cessna that it was caused by some harmonic vibration and the diffuser

(Edited in line with NuName's post below which is the article I was thinking of. Thanks NuName)

Apparently not Engine Damage Not Caused by Volcanic Ash: AINonline (http://www.ainonline.com/news/single-news-page/article/engine-damage-not-caused-by-volcanic-ash-24899/)

Its the result of a diffuser failure which ruptured the fuel manifold line and burned out the stators- Williams are now replacing the diffusers with uprated items! This was an FJ44-3 series engine, AND JUST TO CONFIRM- this happened before the unpronounceable Icelandic volcano popped!
