Flying EK for the first time in a long time in 10 days or so.. heading for BKK from LGW.

Any comments as to their food standards and advice on meal choice would be appreciated... thinking about asking for Middle Eastern/Asian option.... thanks :ok:

In general EK food is the pits.

If ECO, last few rows have no choice.

I hope your trip to BKK, is "business"....enjoy the experience, but beware the riots in the city.

How long is your stop over in DXB, safer then BKK.... lol

The Asian option will often be vegetarian.

IMO EK food in Y or even C is no better or worse than any other airline. Not surprising since they load it from the point of departure where the same catering company often supplies many airlines. They are OK with free wines and spirits but you'll have to pay for Champagne in Y.

Personally I think the food and IFE with Emirates are fine. One thing I have noticed is that they seem to have started serving a meal and a snack on most sectors as opposed to two meals...

I would also echo Glf's comments about availability; the popular options do tend to run out in Y, though there will still be a choice. Best way to get around this is to check in online and make sure you choose a seat near the front of the cabin :ok:

P.s. Bangkok aint as dangerous as it looks in the news. The riots and protests are pretty localised and as long as you employ a bit of common sense you'll be fine.

IME the food on Emirates varies. UK to Dubai has been good by current standards. Dubai to UK not too bad. Dubai to SE Asia distinctly dodgy.

Thanks for that info.... decided against EK in the end in favour of using EY on a miles and cash basis even though it means LHR rather than local LGW.

Just got to face BKK now!!

If I were you I'd go hungry and have something nice in BKK. You're on a hiding to nothing wanting reasonable food in an aircraft - irrespective of the class of travel, it's better on the ground.

Royal Dragon if you can make it. Otherwise anywhere outside the main tourist drag, I find Bangkae pretty good.

Thanks for the recommendation SO... I am familiar with BKK and know that getting good food is not difficult. Off to HKT to work this time.

Good food is possible on airlines...I'll PM you a link to a trip report I did...

EK food is actually generally pretty good in all classes compared to the same meals on the same sectors provided by other airlines. First and Club is very good and menus imaginitive and Economy is a fair/good version of everyone else's.

I've always felt that EK's weakest link is DXB airport. The next weakest link is their food. It does not match the excellent service and courtesy level of the CC. That said, it's just average, not bad.

Better to eat in the lounge at Dubai!
