Is it only EY crew or all crew that are NO LONGER allowed to purchase beverages at the Airport duty free, or bring any in from anywhere else?

Are EK crew allowed to buy at Dubai duty free?

Just one more plan to P&%s the troops off:sad:

Landed this morning.

Duty free purchases not allowed. Customs searched every crew bag and confiscated alcohol.

The companie's silence on the matter is deafening......

Perhaps the AVSEC department has something to do with it??? What a disaster this place is becoming!

As usual, in a week or two it will be forgotten.

EK crew arriving in DXB do not go through the passenger terminal, we have a dedicated arrivals hall at HQ - with it's own duty free shop! Sells everything except alcohol though.......

As far as I am aware we can still bring in duty free booze bought at outstations :ok:

The way I read this is that Duty Free is ok, we just cannot bring it in from out of the country. There is no mention of Abu Dhabi Duty free? however now that I have mentioned this we should soon get another email

"Due to a change in policy crews should refrain from importing alcohol to AUH when they are on duty. This rule shall be followed until further notice."

Amberman,

I am afraid it does apply to duty free. They will not sell to you. We tried and were told NO.

(Importing is bringing through Customs. Which is after duty free)

Apparently, some folk have been selling their duty free town side on a large scale. This is from a customs officer himself and EY has told them to check all EY crew now!

Sounds about right...always one tosser who spoils it for everyone else!
Why not target those involved instead of everyone suffering!

This all came down rather quickly... with no prior notice.

9pm Tuesday night the new law came into effect with no prior advertisement. The next morning I went out on a day turn, and came back with some wine from the duty free. The customs agents jumped on me like I was packing a tactical nuke. No explanation for the new law was offered.. and they said they had in formed EY, and that EY was to have sent out an e-mail to all staff. This didn't come out until 18:30 the next day. No amnesty for those out of country during this time.

When I asked why customs didn't post any sort of sign or advanced notice, they reply was actually funny in it's predictability:

"it is not my job to put up these signs... it is my job to take the alcohol"

When business drops off at Abu Dhabi duty free they'll probably rescind the new rule, depending of course how well connected the owners of the franchise are.

What about "Dr Sheik xxx ex one time boss of GF and now EY" has he noticed the serious drop off in business considering crew are their biggest customers? Are crews from other airlines also covered by the ban or is it only EY?

You're dreaming if you think thats going to happen.

In the middle of the biggest property collapse in the short history of this part of the world, the Dubai government rescinds / restricts residency visas based on property ownership.
I hardly think the Abu Dhabi boys are going to be concerned about the lost revenue on a few bottles of whiskey.
