Hi!

Probably like a few wannabes out there, airline pilot is the only career I have in my mind and I had it ever since...well. .ever since really.. .If I dont succeed, that would be like a complete failure for me. Like no where to go in life...I know its good to have a back a up plan like my parents are always telling me. . .But Im very uncertain about my madical cerificate. I have got asthma which attacks afer heavy exercise. I dont know if I will pass the medical in two years time. Im just concerned <img src="frown.gif" border="0">

Thers no point in posting this up I guess.. .Is there any airline pilots who suffer from Astma?

Try a search in 'Medical & Health', this has been covered several times before.

I'm pretty sure that asthma in any form is a big no-no for professional aviation of any kind. I shall shift this topic to 'Medical and Health', where you may get some more authoritative answers.

I searched the archives and found this link to the CAA website which specifies precisely what's an acceptable degree of asthma if you want to pass a Class 1.

<a href="http://www.srg.caa.co.uk/pld/med/med_information.asp?page=/medical/SRG_MED_asthma.htm" target="_blank">http://www.srg.caa.co.uk/pld/med/med_information.asp?page=/medical/SRG_MED_asthma.htm</a>

I also discovered that it was you who started the thread against which the above link was posted by a fellow ppruner and using the same question as this thread!!

Nothing wrong with that I suppose, but rather than seek assurance from us, find out from the experts. The certainty will do you the world of good, honest!

I too was worried about this before I got my Class 1.

I've had asthma for as long as I can remember and am on 'preventer' medication. I had to go see a specialist who wrote a report to CASA basically saying that my asthma is under control, and I'm not going to suddenly keel over at the controls. This took a bit of running around, but I got my class 1 in the end.

All I can say is just do the medical, you'll never know if you don't. Better to do it now before you start your training. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">
