Hi all, just want to find out how to transfer a Type Rating done in the USA to a SA licence? Don't have the regs near me, anyone had any previous experience with this?

Does one have to do a sim session in SA with a DE to get it transfered? Does a SACAA DE have to sit in on the check ride in the US?

thanks

The Vermillion Weasel.

The answer to the question you ask is probably to be found in Part 61.
61.13.9.
Is the USA a ICAO contracting state?
If so then in terms of Article 33 of Convention, the SA commissioner may authorise such a transfer provided that the requirements for the rating were equal or above the minimum standard of Part 61.
You got to write to the guy and ask him nicely .
My private experience was a long time ago and was handled by the company - but obviously I had to fly an IR/Base check in the SA registered aircraft.
Hope that piece of round about stuff does not have you weaseling around in the dark.
