Ah, the new SAR Merlin has arrived.

The gubbings on the port side is possibly the loudspeaker......Did anyone spot the funniest Incident signal ever, recently when the crew thought it wasn't working but actually it was...... The locals in Zummerset got a shock...Tee Hee

So are the RN converting their MK1s early?

vecvechookattack

No. Its not a Royal Navy Merlin. You can tell by all that red paint on it....and the cabin is full of seats....and its got 2 rescue hoists...Therefore its a SAR cab....on its way to RAF St Mawgan no doubt.

Who does the SAR cab belong too then?

Non of the MK3s have a radome where 'orange reaper' normally sits, or a double hoist assy. And the last time I looked, the RN cabs doing the SAR role had red bits on them........

Can't help thinking there's a flaw in those new IF screens shown fitted while it's on the low-loader.

Same as the Algerian Lynx in the UK. They will be assigned UK military serials to operate in the UK.

Just wondered if this was the Boscombe Down - Yeovilton heavy load that meant to be transiting down the A303 on Thursday?

So why didn't we go down the route of replacing our Seakings/RN/RAF with this version of the EH? In this current climate, surely it would have been cheaper than any PFI or whatever the system is that is employing SAR-H?

And what is the difference between this version and the RCAF/Coastguard Cormorant?

Yes it was the load from BD to VL on Thursday, why VL I don't know rather than RTB at Yeovil

The aircraft has three servo jacks for the Main Rotor Head. They are ensuring that the servo jacks remain in place and do not shift past the centre of gravity.

"Forgive me if I'm being dull, but why are the three gents on the top during the road journey?"

TOTD,
The probable reason is some sort of obstruction or obstacle that needs them ready to give warning or lift telephone wires or tree limbs over the road. (try recovering a Seaking from Predannack to Culdrose by road!), they certainly wouldn't be on top the whole way.
The main servos have a bypass that opens when hydraulics are released, allowing the elastomeric bearings to unwind to their in-flight position. It would take a strong man to move them without hydraulics!
