Not quite sure exactly what it is that you're asking, but do these help ?

Kalibo International Airport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalibo_International_Airport#Airlines_and_destinations)
Godofredo P. Ramos Airport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godofredo_P._Ramos_Airport#Airlines_and_destinations)

It appears that going from Boracay to Bangkok, you may need to change plane in Manila

Thank you for the information. It is probably correct that Boracay is only connected with Manila and unlike Phuket or some other destinations does not have multiple international connectivity.

On a related issue on researching I have found out that there are 2 airports in the proximity of Boracay.

1) Kalibo: This apparently is about a 90 min bus ride to Caticlan and then a 20 min ferry ride to Boracay

2) Caticlan which basically will save me the 90 min bus ride and related wait time.

Who ever I speak to basically says fly to Kalibo and take a bus and when I probe the reason they site a "small scary propeller plane". On checking websites it seems that this "small scary propeller plane" is either an ATR or Dornier 328. I have no issues with that especially if I am saving 2 hours on a journey.

Does anyone have feedback on this route ie

Manilla - Caticlan - Manilla?

And are the carriers flying this ok?

Flying end June so any help will be much appreciated.

The carrier is SEAIR with Dornier 328 from their website:-

South East Asian Airlines (SEAIR) is a pioneer in Philippine aviation.
SEAIR is the second-oldest airline in the Philippines with a firm foundation in leisure travel.
Since 1995, we have been flying passengers to some of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Consistency, quality and reliability characterizes SEAIR’s operations.

No problem and the Dornier is a fine machine and it saves loads of time and hassle. The rich and famous use them and they go daily to some of the private resorts in Palawain etc. I fly almost daily around the islands and you will have no problem. Flying like it used to be! June not the best month start of the rainy season

take cebu pacific. it is the best loco in the phils and they fly to caticalan, kalibo, manila and bangkok. whichever route you choose is convenient because you dont have to change terminal. If you fly with other carrier, you may have to change terminal.

Its an awesome island and well worth the visit, once you see Caticlan airport you will realize why there are no international flights :):)

Caticlan was closed to the ATR last year due to overruns by Zest. I generally prefer to fly PAL or Cebu Pacific.

Cebu ATRs still fly into Caticlan.

Yes, they were only suspended for a few months.

Borocay is very overrated; prepare to be disappointed. 30 yrs or so ago it was rightly voted the 'most beautiful beach in the World' or some such thing. Now totally overdeveloped, expensive and not really worth the trouble.

Sorry to be so negative. Plenty of (much) better places to visit in the Philippines. PM me if you want some places to go off the beaten track.

Avoid Cebu Pacific if you can. Lousy customer service, web site that does not work and if you need a refund following a cancellation you will try for over a year without any luck. Foreign credit cards do not work either with them last time I tried. Also not - apparently - a member of ICAO.

I fly quite a bit internally in the PI and stick with PAL as far as possible.

Have to agree with Lars. While it was a nice place to visit, by the end of the 2 nights and 3 days I was there, I was REALLY ready to leave. My wife is Korean, and even she was shocked that well over 50% of the tourist, were Korean. There was even a very well known Korean electronics firm having a big meeting there, all the way down to big banners on the beach.
As for Caticlan, a very quaint airport with about a 2500 ft runway. There is no taxiway, and on one end of the runway, there is a road running perpendicular, that is closed for take offs and landings. Kind of fun to taxi down the runway, and spin at the end. Then feel the strain as the pilot REALLY revs up the props while standing on the brakes before launch. :)
I also gave up on Cebu Pacific and use PAL for most of my domestic flying.

Here is a pic of the road at the end of the runway.

@terry

Besides not liking it for the choice of people around how were the beaches, the sunsets, and the water?

Don't get me wrong, we had no problem with the fact that Boracay has been taken over by the Koreans. Being married to one, I am used to being around them. lol

Yes, the sand is white, the water is blue, and the sunsets are incredible. The vendors are hard to avoid, and they get very aggressive. The nicer hotels, (we stayed at the Boracay Regency), will have chairs on the beach, and people to help keep the vendors from bothering you.

Sounds good. Staying at a better hotel.

BTW just loved the picture of the landing. So looking forward to that.

Sorry to hijack this thread a little bit. I looked into going to Borocay after this thread but I'm having second thoughts now. Can any of you recommend places to visit in South East Asia? I'm thinking Luang Prabang or Bali at the moment but willing to listen to suggestions.

Thailand isn't good value for money at present. Typical Thai attitudes prevail with tourist numbers down, prices rise to try to maintain same income!! Go figure.

Wannabe Flyer - Thanks, will look into some of them places. Phuket is a place we will be visiting, just need to find a few more.

mutt - Yep, looked into already - Planning on doing Siem Reap and possible Pnom Penh but will also look into places in Vietnam.

ZFT - We were planning on Phuket & Bankok for Thailand but at the moment it's only looking like being Phuket.

Thanks again!

As the thread suggested I was planning the Manila - Boracay - Bangkok. However the protests, in availability of direct flights or decent connections have changed my route considerably. Routing via Hong Kong has worked out cheaper and better. This however does not address the issue in Bangkok so I have added on Manila and Bali at the same cost!

New route Hong Kong - Manila (3 day stop) - Caticlan - Manila - Hong Kong (over night) - Bali - Hong Kong.

New concern I hear that PR flights out of Caticlan (MPH) are always running late. My Caticlan - Manila - Hong Kong has a layover of about 2 hrs in Manila. Any feedback on historical Data? A delay :{ would screw up the "New Route"

So finally did this leg

Inbound on PR, Scheduled flying time 1:10 mins. Actual flying time 42 minutes, retrieving luggage 55 seconds, on the beach 40 mins later!!! Flight left on time. Loved the landing! Did however notice a very rapid turn around and by the time I was walking away from the airport I could see the aircraft taking off!

Return

Flt departure was at 1040

Apparently the incoming aircraft has landed early and most of the passengers were already there so they loaded it up and packed it off 40 mins early !!!! Therefore Inspite of getting there on time I missed the flight........ Was loaded onto another flight ETD 1220 which left at 1250. Again landed 40 mins later.

Loved the departure............

Well, the planes only land in one direction, and take off in the same - from the sea and towards the sea ..

If only you had walked to the end of the runway at the mountain end and see the rubber burnt before the planes turn to bakctrack - you will wonder how the Dash 8 squeezed in ... :D

I did take a look-see .. scary but on the edge

After all - this airport used to see the 4 jet engine jumbo-liner BAe 146 of Asian Spirit ...

Safe flying ..
