View Full Version : Medical 1 Discrimination?

Hi there fellow flying friends,

As we all know we need to pass our class 1 Medical in order to become professionals. So, recently I invested in a proper Medical examination at the CAA. Everything seemed to be just fine, but unfortunately I had failed. The reason: I had non-hodgkin lymphoma 20 years ago! Just because it stands in the protocol of the CAA (as the AME told me) I will be disqualified, disregarding the fact that I have been cured twenty years ago and the chance of me getting it will be as big as any other healthy individual. I have been advised to appeal for this matter, and as you can imagine, I will certainly do so! However, I'd like to get some ideas of what to do exactly and hear any suggestions on what my best way of acting in this matter would be. Are there any other wannabes that feel discriminated against, or are there any professionals that have gone through a similar situation? Your response would be much appreciated!

A very healthy Flying Dutchman.

Dutchy - You need professional help in the form of a CAA medical examiner with specialist aviation qualifications.

Suggest you try Dr. Ian Perry, 19 Clivedon Place, London SW1. The CAA at Gatwick will have his 'phone number.

Best of Luck - suggest you lay off that "discrimination" word though!!! <img src="wink.gif" border="0">
