I am one of the many fustrated people that have been waiting for the vision limits on the Class 1 Medical to change (I'm +3.5).

I wanted to let other "let-me-be"s in the same position know that I called the CAA Medical Centre and spoke to Alan, the senior opthalmologist who gave me some encouraging news about their progress on getting the new 'proposed' limits introduced.

He explained that they are currently going through the 'proposal of amendment' stage which takes a long time because all the different member states have to agree on the wording. I already knew this because the SRG's website has told me the same thing for nearly six months now!

He reassured me that things are moving on this and that they hope to get an update on the website very soon and told me to call back at the end of January if I hadn't heard anything.

He said that they may be able to start issuing licencses with the new limits early in the new year, possibly Spring using special exemptions.

I was very happy with this news as I have been waiting for the changes since August 2000! Alan asked me to wait first to see what is put up on their website in the next few weeks or so and then see what is happening then.

Can others please patiently do this also? The last thing I want is for the CAA's opthalmologists to be inundated with calls regarding this because I've had the decency to reveal the contents of this private conversation.

Please ask me for more info on the tel call I had if you want to know more about it.

BTW, the SRG page I keep referring to is <a href="http://www.srg.caa.co.uk/pld/med/med_whatsnew.asp" target="_blank">http://www.srg.caa.co.uk/pld/med/med_whatsnew.asp</a>

Fingers crossed guys & gals!!
