Hi,
I have a Security Tool popping up and trying ti get credit card details - cannot access to delete this - also getting Lisas Virus through Skype? Any ideas - cannot access anything to sort this out as far as I can see. Have AVG basic but unsure as to what has happened.
Many thanks,
HR
What is the name of the security 'popup'?

What tool is it, where is it popping up. IE: what program are you using when it happens.

Security Tool pops up even though we have not downloaded or have this programme - It happens on start up - cannot access anything else - encourages me to enter CC details etc. "Skype is infected with worm LSAS. Blaster. Keyloger...Skyper is trying to send your credit card details..."also msnmsgr infected with LSAS - never seen anything like this before.
Desk top comes up then disappears.
Cheers

Remove Security Tool and SecurityTool (Uninstall Guide) (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-security-tool) and see how you get on (I don't think on a quick look anyone wants your money on that site:))
This is one of many 'Smit-Fraud' nasties that seem to be going around at the moment.

BOAC - that's the one! Many thanks - will keep you posted!
Not just AVG - I recently cleared a friend's machine who was on a paid and current McAfee and caught 'Anti-malware 2010'.
I firmly believe there is not a single AV product out there, even if updated every 30 minutes, that is 100% proof.

Best way to avoid the payload is not to run as an Admin or equivalent.

Always feared AVG free, since sometimes these notifications was scary.
Wanting CC details, which shows they are not fully protected.
Why would they ask this when I never used this before on line?
Since I purchased Norton AV 2 years ago I have been what I hope is better protected.
At least have not had these warnings pop up, and my bank account balances accordingly.
Which was my greatest concern.
I still use AVG free on another computer, but not one that involves banking issues,
Maybe its me but I feel safer with Norton.

BOAC - many thanks - all sorted now.
Regarding the other comments - this is the first problem in a couple of years and is on a computer the kids use so, personally, I think they may have downloaded something that triggered this - but hey I am no expert. I have AVG on this computer and I am happy with it. I use firefox and google chrome as browsers. But, I agree, I don't think you can be 100% safe.
Thanks again.

rae - don't forget to 'tidy up' with Malwarebytes or SuperAntiSpyware (updated of course).

a computer the kids use so, personally, I think they may have downloaded something that triggered this
My solution to this was to unplug the network cable from the kid's computer "until I got round to sorting it out" ... and this "until" doubled on each occurrence.
It took me a week to get round to it the first time, and a fortnight the second time. They know that if they choose to download and install and run any viruses again it'll be a month next time.
And that seems to have done the trick. No viruses on any child's computer for several years now.
rae - to avoid your kids screwing you up again, follow the advice of many here and create a limited account on their machine. Does not, of course, stop YOU yourself screwing things up:)

rae, get the NoScript addon for firefox.
Some of these trojans download themselves - no user clicking required - just by being unfortunate enough to visit a hacked site with a hidden script inserted.
This is a very common attack vector which Noscript will block unless you allow it.
Takes a little bit to get the hang of. It's default-safe. And fairly intuitive.
