From the Mail. Interesting article.

The Kremlin's taunting Britain with Blackjack bombers | Mail Online (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1263840/The-Kremlins-taunting-Britain-Blackjack-bombers.html?ITO=1490)

What with Q at Lossie and Joint Warrior about to start it might get a bit sporting over the Faroes gap! Time for something Daring?! (see what I did there, eh? Oh, ok)

Should anyone call 'beadwindow' on this? After all the report does mention some new and secret kit we now use!

(my red lettering)

There's no time to dress for action after the alert is sounded. It takes at least five minutes to clamber into long johns, overalls, flying suit, stiff anti-gravity pants and rubber survival suit, so these went on when the crews came on duty and they've been in them ever since. :E

First time I've ever heard a Bear described as 'lumbering'. IIRC it's top speed is in excess of 510kts. Quiet an intercept and maintain challenge over distance for some fighters I would have thought?

Are these bombers on their own or do they fly in pairs?

Just wondering, if they flew solo, who would know we had shot one down, it could have suffered some form of mechanical failure...... Might stop them flying for a while.:}

How about ' everyone in radio range ' + the later access to the ADR's, not to mention the conscience of the crew responsible.

Even hinting at such an idea is the lowest thing I've ever heard.

Double Zero

Double Zero...Don't be so quick to judge. Who is to say that the 200 odd Russian bombers with modern fighter escorts that might return for revenge, armed with
very long range cruise or nuclear missiles, and coming in at ultra low level
(and we know what happened
when they did that!) may not be easy pickings for our couple of QRA aircraft
:}:}:}:}:}:}:}

Hmmm let's give it a try:eek::eek::eek:

If they turned up in the first place looking like doing something really hostile, I suppose shoot them down and kill the many crew.

I don't think the Russians are that stupid, and ' hordes coming for revenge ' sounds a particularly good reason, apart from having standards, why not to shoot the first one !

Have you by any chance read the Tom Clancy book ' Red Storm Rising ' ?

A bit out of date, but I recommend it as a read.

Have you read 'Get Your Head Out of Your Arse and Lighten Up' by 'I'msure Itwasajoke'?

All very typical Daily Mail to be honest.

:ok:

I can't vouch for anyone else, but my post was very tongue in cheek, and I didn't
think anyone would see it as any different!

I think Double Zero read my post correctly too.
Oh DZ, I have not read the book in question.

why are we still wasting time & effort intercepting ac in international airspace that pose no threat whatsoever?

You may have a good point there!
If we intercepted them in UK airspace it would save loads of fuel.
On the other hand, we could just ask them to land....If they can afford the fuel to get here, them maybe they could buy a few cream teas or something while they are here, and help to boost the economy:E

Good point.

I dont suppose us intercepting them puts them off their practice weapons delivery profiles at all................................

If they want to get into UK why not go to Calais and hop on a lorry?
