Hello all. My wife and two kids were on the Saturday flight 3 April from Abu Dhabi to Narita (EY876). Just got off the phone to her and she told me that they were turned away from Chinese airspace because there had been a diplomatic clearance problem for the overflight. They held for about an hour then diverted to Lahore for a refuel and for EY HQ to sort things out. They got there in the end, about 4 hours late.

Anyone know what happened? Teething problems for the new route or is this kind of thing happening regularly?

She said the crew were great, kept them in the picture the whole time and swore black and blue that they had the clearance approved before they left.

Just curious as an ATC and regular EY customer.

Cheers,

NFR.

I think the flight number was EY878 and not EY876. I have no information, but I was wondering if it did an over weight landing in LHE then. There would still be too much fuel on board so soon into the flight.

Therein may have been the problem. The booking said EY876 and when I was trying to chase the flight down some airport sites had EY878 listed. Maybe that is why it happened? Thanks for the response.
