Air Tran is such an annoyance to Southwest they will probably need to move against Air Tran before long.

What makes you target AirTran and not companys like jetBlue or Spirit...I personally think AirTran will do good and has potential to be a successful company...maybe not as good as Southwest but...profitable with good expansion....

Learning to train as a Commercial Pilot, I had flown them in 1998 as a passenger and somehow had a good feeling about Air Tran and its future. They had a nice feeling about them. I even got to see the pilots. About 12 years later now I wish I had been able to work (fly) with them. They seem like they are going to be BIG!

I worked there for two years. Let me just say that it is a different place to work. What may look good from the outside might not be the case. Research before you decide.

Captains get to wear leather flight jackets with their stripes on their shoulders. I think the aviator glasses is also part of the uniform.:8

I worked there from 2001-2007 as an F/O on the B717 and later a Captain on the B737NG. I was fortunate to get hired there after 9/11 as my previous airline (Midway) shut down. I found it to be generally a good place to work withe the usual pilot/management/contract/scheduling irritations. I lived in ATL and so it was great to get to the airport in 20 mins, have a hard line with 15 or more days off. I left to join an International Airline and I was happy there for the most part. Not sure what has changed since 2007.

I know a former coworker there and i have a cousin there also. They seem pretty happy, although its not a Southwest or jetBlue pay or atmosphere...I heard training is pretty rough on the 717 as compared to the 737...how did you feel about it?

Accepting applications is not the same as hiring. AirTran still has pilots on furlough. They get first dibs.

Well neighbor, my AirTrain currently furloughed pilot friend and I spoke earlier in the week.

Yes, they are accepting applications.

Yes, they will be hiring this year.

However, there are still furloughed AirTran pilots on the street that need to go to recurrent, check-rides, etc. before any new hires start.

I believe the info provided by my furloughed AirTran friend is a little more reliable than some blogs, etc.

Well, actually, AirTran had a class of 20 (all B737) that started on February 15 and another of 23 that started on or about March 15, or thereabouts.

Latest I've heard is another class starting May 3.

Not sure why your furloughed friends/relatives haven't received a call.
