Not true. For quite a few years now charter airlines have been charging passengers to pre-book their seats (often you cant actually choose exact seats, just that you will be 'together' on the aircraft)

Its purely optional, of course there is a small risk that many people will do it and you won't get seats together but very unlikely if you arrive in good time at the airport.

Also depending on the ages of the children they may HAVE to seat a child with an adult anyway.

Thomson have introduced a new 'Select a seat' option where passengers pay a bit extra to choose their seats. However, Thomson usually preseat groups or a good handling agent should usually look at the seat plan and seat groups together.

Did you book it all in one go or seperately? Either way, turn up in good time and it should give you a bit of flexibility if there is a problem.#

PS. I don't know if you will be flying on a Thomson 767 or a ex-First Choice 767. If its the First choice the config is 2-3-2, so a middle 3 would be good for you as there is 3 of you? With the Thomson aircraft you could always have the 2 and then 1 across the aisle or 3 in the middle, your call!

Yes you can pre-book actual seats with Thomson Airways. It is a recently introduced feature called 'Select Your Seat' and available for booking from 60 days prior to departure. You select your seat from a plan of the aircraft seating layout. There is a charge for using this facility.

This is an optional feature but you can still just turn up at the airport and seats will be allocated at check-in.

i may be wrong but my experience of flying with TOM - if you do not pay to pre book seats the company actually pre allocate them for you and this cannot be amended by check-in staff. we flew LPA-CWL and were all seated seperately at different ends of the a/c. i think for a longhaul it is worth pre booking for piece of mind.

Yes that's right mile high boy.We flew from Doncaster on 737 to Palma,& although we had paid for legroom seats,i rang the airlline to ask if i could reserve 12 D&E on this route,as we knew from past experience that although 12 B&C are still legroom, they have less.
I was told that we would still have to pay the seat reservaion fee,on top of what we had paid fro the legroom. That's a bit of a cheek if you ask me!!!
Anyways,we were early to check in & ground staff would not let us choose 12 D&E,& would only let us have 12 B&C as they had already being allocated to us by the airline.
Gone are the days then when booking a flight,we could choose from the little seat plan thingy in the booking process.
For this reason alone,i prefer to fly monarch,as you can also choose the seat number.

Hi

We (SWMBO and myself) are going from BRS to Halkidiki in June. From the outset, as always when taking a Thomson's holiday, I paid £10 each to sit together. Fast forward to last week and now having paid for the balance of our holiday, I then went on to 'select a seat'. I normally contact them in advance and in the past have had to pay a further £10 each for the 'comfort' of knowing precisely which seats we shall be sitting in both going and returning.

To my very pleasant surprise, I was told that since last November, there is now no additional charge.

I have the email confirmation of our two seat numbers, there and back.

Regards to all

Raglan2

You are a little out of date. Thomson Airways now offer you a seating plan of the aircraft from which you can select your actual seat numbers.

Not that far out of date at all.
This was only in september 09,plus I've just tried to book for this september,On the same route,& again there is no seat selection available.
maybe it's just on this route from doncaster.

Hi jeanyqua

Have a look at my message above - No 7 in this thread.

Since last November, Thomson now have their seating plans available for seat selection 60 days prior to departure, presumably once the booking monies have been paid in full.

Hope this helps

What Raglan2 said is absolutely correct.

I booked a Thomson holiday on-line and although it did state that 'Select Your Seat' will be available from 60 days prior to departure, I received an e-mail from Thomson 12 weeks prior to departure inviting me to select our seats.

Perhaps this only applies to flights booked on-line and it does state 'Availability and price varies by route'.
