I was on this one, I wondered why they returned instead of continuing. We had just climbed through a storm I did not really enjoy going back down through it with the later prospect of a third one. Does anyone know what the eventual damage was if anything?
From Aviation Herarld
A Baboo Embraer ERJ-190, registration HB-JQG performing flight F7-291 from Geneva (Switzerland) to Nice (France) with 57 passengers and 4 crew, was climbing through FL210 out of Geneva, when the crew reported a strong lightning strike. The crew temporarily encountered problems reading the radio (received signal quality reported 2 by 5 [very weak but clear], later again 5 by 5 [loud and clear]), their transponder stopped sending altitude data. The crew considered to return to Geneva, considered to continue to Nice, but in the end decided to return to Geneva, where the airplane landed safely on runway 23.

They will have had maintenance more readilly available in GVA than in NCE. Operationally, it made sense to go back to GVA.
