Did u also read the story that was published a couple days prior about a couple who allegedly " kissed" in a restaurant in Dubai and were sentenced to 30 days in jail ? an emirate female called the police on them. Management in the restaurant denied they were kissing and denied they were making any type of a scene. Other witnesses also denied any misbehavings.

From a distance that place looks like tomorrow's dream place to live and retire, but a closer look reveals a primitive tribe controlling people's thoughts.

Yes you are right, except the UAE is a Muslim Country with laws that are made for ALL people alike. They are a lot more liberal than say Saudia Arabia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Yemen, where you could be flogged for such behaviour. It's the old story 'When in Rome.............'

So how do Muslims get together to produce little Muslims ?

I was once told that Muslims believe that the next Messiah will be born to a man, which is why they all wear those baggy trousers.

Is this true ?

Yeah really annoys me. When in Rome.........

So in the middle east we have to be very cautious about our actions but in Europe we build mosques, allow pretty much any display of peoples beliefs in public and I think that is ok. It's the double standards that make it so stupid. I want to eat pork and drink water outside in Dubai during ramadan because I am NOT a muslim and it is hot hungry work being outside there.

The middle east is doomed in my opinion, nothing there of any interest, people are starting to realize that. Will be back in the dark ages pretty soon. But dont worry you can all come live in England and do whatever you want, sharia law soon I expect there as all the politicians are spineless.

What about passengers on board of Emirates Airlines? Are they also subject to the sharia, the same way they are bound to the Air Navigation Order in say British Airlines? Of course not! So why this double standard?

What do you think? To me, it seems like rampant racism, plain and simple.

There's also a story there about a man being executed by firing squad for raping and then battering to death a 4 year old boy - maybe they have it right after all!

Crewmeal,

When in Rome ?

That is complete and utter bull:mad:. A muslim country that is full of dish dash drunks drinking their chevis at various bars all over the UAE ( equestrian club in Al Ain for example) and for those that don't frequent the bars, they are the same guys who honk and demand service outside liquor stores ie.. Spinney's.

If the idiot drivers don't get ya here, the hypocracy certainly does. On a different thread someone made the statement that we're here mostly for financial reasons.. Majority rules its the ONLY reason !

When in Rome, you can beat, run over and leave a man for dead that is videotaped and be aquitted because your a sheikh but kissing or texting lands you in jail ?

There would be no " ROME" if it weren't for the 85% of expats who have made this country what it is.

?? I wasn't making a statement. just asking a question - knowledge is power.

Or am I reading your response backwards ?

This has nothing to do with any airline. They committed adultery in a country where it is severely frowned upon, and the texts were used as evidence.

When in Rome, etc.

True enough, although they were well paid for it. However that is irrelevant. If you don't like it there you can always leave.

"True enough, although they were well paid for it. However that is irrelevant. If you don't like it there you can always leave"

Included in that percentage are the Indians, Pakistani's, Sri Lankans etc..
If you think they are well paid, you certainly haven't been here !

We can't leave, our creditors are holding us hostage here :)

ChicoG..

Spare a few minutes and read the article before you post. They were NOT jailed for adultry. Matter of fact, the appeals court lessened their sentence because adultry couldn't be proven. :=

And to think it all started off with an estranged husband accusing his wife of it during an impending divorce. Seriously ?

No one said it had anything to do with the airline but it would have made for an even more interesting story if it had :D
