Anyone know anything about this?

ANYTHING will be better than the A340-200's they have! :ok:

Hijack on

When is the 3 X B747-400's SAA have going to"leave"? Heard all sorts of rumours :bored:.

I think the A330-200 will work well for SAA with it's already establish A340 fleet. The four engine jobs is becoming a less prefered"buy" by the bean counters.

Hi-jack off..back to the topic :ok:

When SAA ordered the A346 and A343 they said that the A330 was the LEAST efficient long haul aircraft to operate out of JNB.

What gives?

Efficiency is a subjective criterion and the 'efficiency' of this a/c could be proportionate to the size of the backhander that some BEE executive of SAA would receive from Airbus for the deal.

Since then the A330-200 has received some significant updates. The HGW version is very impressive. Also, they are likely to operate out of Cape Town quite a bit, and on shorter routes out of Joburg where there won't be a penalty and it will be particularly efficient.

The A340-200s, which they are replacing, were only meant as an interim measure while SAA was receiving the A340-600s and A340-300s but when they decided to get rid of most of the 747-400s because of the balloon leases they held onto the A340-200s longer! The A340-200s were on very cheap leases directly from Airbus they were very well maintained (ex LH aircraft).
