Heard a rumour today that Qualiflyer, the frequent flyer scheme of DAT, Swissair (and the resulting debris), TAP etc etc has gone for a ball of chalk, and Crossair are looking for new partners. For those of us knee deep in Qualiflyer points (having not been able to use them for aeons), anyone know where this leaves us? Anyone got any firm news on this?

This is an official Crossair announcement;

Presidents agree to retain frequent flyer programme

Feb. 12. The CEOs of the airlines of the Qualiflyer Group have confirmed their commitment to the Qualiflyer frequent flyer programme. All other alliance activities will, however, be discontinued.

The decisions were taken at a meeting of the CEOs of Swissair, Crossair (the future Swiss Air Lines), DAT Belgian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Portugalia Airlines, TAP Air Portugal and the Volare Group in Zurich today.

The participants discussed various key issues of their alliance activities, and resolved that their highly successful joint Qualiflyer frequent flyer programme should be continued with all its key service features.

For programme members, this means that: . . Qualiflyer will continue in its present form;. . all miles already earned will remain valid;. . miles can continue to be earned and redeemed on all member airlines and other programme partners.

Mindpearl, the worldwide chain of call centres, will continue to operate as a separate entity. The company, which is fully owned by Crossair, will offer services to any airline or other company, subject to the appropriate contractual agreements.

All other alliance activities of the Qualiflyer Group will be discontinued with immediate effect. Each of the former partners will independently assess its own alliance options and determine its future alliance strategy accordingly.
