Does anyone know if having obtained an M1 visa for a specific school is it possible to change to a different school without having to go through the whole visa process agian?

If you are within the date on your I20 and no more than 6 months have elapsed on your visa. You would then ask your school to transfer you to your new school. They cannot refuse to do this.

Remember that it is NOT the date on your visa. It's the dates on your I20 which count and if you have completed the training or exceeded those date then your visa is not valid and you would need a new one even if attending the same school.

In addition to the always excellent posts from SoCal, you can actually get in touch with SEVIS yourself if the school is acting up.
A school is REQUIRED to transfer you on your request.

Now school#1 could if they wish decide that you had not "maintained a good standing" with them.

If you have already walked away from school#1 - then you are immediately out of status.

Very true, hence the advise to contact SEVIS yourself before taking any steps.
