I am a little baffled and hopefully some of the more knowledgeable brains on PPRUNE can help.

I am attempting to determine what constitutes an aerodrome under the Air Navigation Regulation 1947.

92 Use of aerodromes
(1) A person must not land an aircraft on, or engage in conduct that causes
an aircraft to take off from, a place that does not satisfy one or more of
the following requirements:
(a) the place is an aerodrome established under the Air Navigation
Regulations;

How can one determine that an aerodrome satisfies a)?

And further CAAP 92-1:
4 - WHICH TYPES OF OPERATIONS MAY BE CONDUCTED FROM A LANDING AREA?

4. Aeroplanes engaged in the following operations may use a landing area:
(a) private;
(b) aerial work—excluding student solo flying and student dual flying prior to successful completion of the General Flying Progress Test; and
(c) charter.

Where in the CAR/CAO/CASR does it say anything about flying training pre GFPT being excluded from operating at ALAs.

Cheers

You may find the school's operations manual restricts operation at other than APPROVED (by the CFI) ALA's that must meet at least the specification of the CAAP and are then entered in the school's ALA register. The ops manual can never be less than, and will often exceed the regulations. Being an ops manual, you are bound by it while training at that school and using their aircraft.
Drop into Farmer Fred's backyard strip on a solo nav unannounced and you may find yourself in for a rude shock.

Bear in mind, anything in ERSA that is on a grey background will require you to obtain permission before EVERY flight there.

Reasons;
1) to check on the condition of the strip (no notams issued for these)
2) to get permission

Even if the AOPA guide says PPR not required, there is a disclaimer and the front of the directory and CAR's clearly state permission IS required.:ok:
