Does anyone know if there are any JAA TRTOs offering Type Rating courses in the US that would lead to a JAA TR? Surfing around, quite a few types seems cheaper in the US than in Europe...

There's at least one (one of the big names) that will do you a JAA TR in the US, but at European prices (so no point unless you need to be in the States for other reasons).

There's no way to avoid the ghastly cost involved with getting a JAA TR. Anything with an European branding is double the cost.

Flight Safety, CAE and Pan Am are all approved by the UK CAA, as well as Bombardier in Canada. Not sure whether anyone else has approval from other JAA states. The reason you will probably only see the big boys seeking JAA approval is the cost involved in getting the inspections done, tens of thousands of dollars a year. This also has an effect on the prices - a JAA rating done in the US will probably be a little cheaper than in Europe but significantly more than the corresponding FAA rating for the same type.
